D&D 5E (2014) WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

The problem is, I think WotC ends up in a losing situation regardless: 1) Many existing diehard fans will complain about any changes (and you just know there'll be a cavalcade of "WOKE!" rants). 2) Folks who don't read it thoroughly will complain that, exactly like you said, it promotes the bad...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

It's been a looong time since I read it and I may be misremembering, but didn't Athas also have nomadic, thieving, swindling elves? Because given the awful stereotype of "thieving, swindling gypsies", that's potentially also a thing of problem for WotC, I imagine.

ToV So What's In Kobold Press' BLACK FLAG First Playtest?

@Marc Radle What I really want to see is active support for Theatre of the Mind play built in as an option. I want to see that the designers look at the static and rigid movement rates, ranges, etc. and recognise them as a legacy of the original game's wargaming roots, but that RPGs have better...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Thinking aloud, could Frog God's/Necromancer's "Tome of Horrors" books (which specifically featured a lot of older D&D monsters from the likes of the AD&D1e Fiend Folio) be used under the CC or would they strictly only still be permissible under the OGL 1.0? Would FGG be able to republish the...

    D&D 5E (2024) What could OneD&D to bring YOU back to D&D? (+)

Very specifically support Theatre of the Mind play with optional rules in the core. Not just ye olde, "Here's a highly specific measurement/distance that you need to eyeball or handwave." but something like zone-based combat. And not tucked away in a little sidebar somewhere, but presented after...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I really don't want to look at the comments on the article but is it mostly clueless individuals who hate WotC/any big company (and so assume anything WotC takes umbrage with is automatically a worthy underdog), folks who are onboard with anything to "pwn/upset the libs", or full on raving...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

It's more like he's made a rickety raft out of random pieces of timber bound together with shoelaces and tree resin and is now trying to float it on a river... of lava. All while screaming that it would've worked if only folks hadn't said, "That's a bloody stupid idea you utter doofus." Mod...

When thinning down the collection, what to keep and why?

I used to own a few hundred RPG books, but ultimately I realised I was buying them out of the urge to collect (gotta have the complete line!) or because I thought, "Oooh, that sounds cool!", etc. And really, I was only actually using a fraction of them and couldn't even keep up with reading what...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

And other classic blunders like "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." and "Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line!"

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

So, we know he lied about the rescue, we know he lied about being a member of Blackwater (they have not employed anyone with his name apparently). What else has he claimed?

Nothing surprises me with this bunch of clowns and everyone involved with them.

My favourite was always: "Let's eat, Grandma." vs. "Let's eat Grandma." - punctuation saves lives!

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

The guy, who in the screen shots posted on the OSR FB page, was making jokes about having to put a bag over Sarah Silverman's head because he says she's "ugly" (but noting her boobs are okay) is offended about comments regarding his weight? The same guy who in the screen shots is gleefully...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Perhaps, but that would a) assume that the OSR FB poster had a reason to want to damage Florio, b) assume that he'd take the time to create a whole bunch of said images and post them, c) assume that Florio isn't so bad despite being heavily involved with NuTSR (and only jumping ship recently)...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Florio deserves no leeway. Beyond the whole NuTSR vileness, he's known for being a misogynist and bigot too. Posts were shown on the OSR FB page highlighting his unpleasant takes and outlook long before this. Bigoted jokes, disparaging remarks about a Jewish comedienne and her breasts, ad nauseum.

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

Folks, he's clearly trolling. I mean, he has Kenneth Copeland (ultra-rich, far right evangelical minister) as his avatar while calling himself Teutonic (Germanic) Berserker.

[VOTING IS OVER!] Vote For The Most Anticipated RPG of 2021!

I voted for Swords of the Serpentine (the pre-release is superb), Legends of Greyskull (because He-Man), and Shadow of the Weird Wizard (as a less grimdark evolution of SotDL).

Explore the Winding Streets & Canals of Swords of the Serpentine!

It fits incredibly well. GUMshoe may have started as investigative-focused rulesets with ho-hum rules for everything else, but various iterations have evolved dramatically. Timewatch was streamlined and pulpy, as is Serpentine (itself an evolution of Timewatch). Both have, by Gumshoe standards...

Review of Paleomythic, RPG of Stone and Sorcery

It really is an elegant, inspiring game. It's the RPG I never knew I wanted and definitely the best game I've come across in over a year.
