D&D General The D&D Multiverse: Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die

I loved the incompleate Enchanter, I like woods out back, Poul Anderson, The Broken Sword, Three Hearts and Three Lions, I also loved The Song Of Albion Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. It's scifi but so High tech it could easily be magic. The world of Tiers series by Philip Jose Farmer, where a...

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

Of course we know that Zagyg's demi plane has dinosaurs and King Kong.

little in the outer realms being subjective so bigger than most worlds....

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

obviously one of the many of the prime materials multiverse. IF they have to be on the outerplanes I'd say a little border realm a "land of the lost" between arborea and the beastlands.

D&D 5E (2024) Its till just me or is the 2024 MM heavily infused by more 4e influences?

5e is very simple and playable great to get started. But I suspect it suffers more for new DM's and players at high levels than 4th E that may be why. Of course every new edition the designers look lovingly at the older stuff that might patch the bones of what they built last time.

I could see some fun steam punk style fantasy on the arcadia one....

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

the big black wall with no sure knowledge of what is there would stop 99 percent of all rushed attacks was the point. add acceleration and the idea of a dragon flying through the mountains in the dark (or forest) and it just gets stupid. But I'm beating a dead horse.

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

almost everyone I've ever talked to about planescape since came out, played in sigil then went to hell and that was about it. I've never talked to anyone who used any of the other stuff. I think that says more than I can about them.

some of the monsters are good. but yeah the rest of it was garbage.

Still are you going to run full speed into a big dark wall of who knows what.

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

i mean a red dragon flying at max of 80 ft per round who dashes cannot see past 120ft when he starts the dash. But he'll end move at 160 ft......George George George of the Jungle "watch out for that Tree!" very poorly thought out.

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

I think it was the back handed admission by WOTC that DarkVision was broken

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

that's true and if you wanted to argue that a creature that can only see with dark vision couldn't be blinded I'd say sure. But WOTC loves it's monsters to see in any light so we have most creatures with switchable vision. (weird idea at best). So there should be some penalty to just switch...

and they all suck and had no where near the detail or plot hooks that the sigil and lower planar stuff had. In fact I don't thing even one of all the novels they wrote seriously showcased any non evil location other than sigil.

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

I like the idea of the Angels being the creatures that spontaneously arose or were created when the universe and therefor the LG and NG planes they originate from ( I may be mixing pathfinder and DND here) or by the Actual Creator of the Universe (assuming the game has one). who are simply a...

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

that's true but the planescape boxed set is too much like the white wolf game all dark and dreary. It really does a terrible job of showing the true variation of the individual planes and focused too much on sigil and the lower planes.

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

I do have a problem with how much angels overpower everything else. You could do that, buff things like Valkeries or other servants of the local diety, or maybe the Angels don't all serve the same gods...Plus you'll have demigods, Giants, mythical creatures and those high level adventurers...

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

in fact read the Broken Sword by Poul Anderson. This is the Aesir and the Vanyr gods who would live on the same plane fighting thier endless fight through mortal and fey proxies on the mortal realm mostly. This is a great example of two CG pantheons not getting along.

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

And I didn't say CE viking population. I said a CG population that idolizes combat and warfare as the epitomy of all that is good............Might not be the Christian good, but it was the Viking Good. CG is a very scary alignment. If killing everyone is the bigger good then it's just...

D&D General Let's make the upper planes playable!

Really you think all the vikings leaving the mini ice age to get food and money for thier families were evil? Probably not. Also Odin's perspective on what's good and Zeus's perceptions on what's good and your perception on what is good is probably 3 different opinions on the subject...
