D&D 5E (2014) So what exactly is Wizards working on?

For all those who keep posting that WotC does not care about us moaning, keep in mind they don't care about our praise either. I think everyone regularly posting on a forum like EnWorld is the demographic WotC is least concerned about now that 5E has gone to print and has proven well received.

D&D 5E (2014) Previous Edition Material You Find Still Valuable for 5e

3E setting guides since nothing similar came out during 4E or so far in 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) So what exactly is Wizards working on?

Paizo has to work hard. They are trying to sell RPG products, not a brand license. Or even want it, for that matter.

D&D 5E (2014) So what exactly is Wizards working on?

Maybe they just aren't good quality? I only played a few but they were very ho hum. HotDQ merits a Pulitzer by comparison.

D&D 5E (2014) So what exactly is Wizards working on?

I was there. There was a tent with some cosplayers. The foodtrucks ... I don't think that was just a WotC thing. In fact, GenCon was a huge letdown for me in terms of it being the launch of 5E. WotC felt barely present. They didn't even have anything set up in the vendor hall.

D&D 5E (2014) Products You Would Like to See WotC Publish For 5E

What an interesting idea! What did you have in mind? I really enjoyed the monster-focused books from 3.5: Lords of Madness, Libris Mortis, Drow of the Underdark. I'd like to see similarly background-heavy monster books 5E. I also loved Dungeonscape. That sort of thing would be very useful for...

ELEMENTAL EVIL Player's Companion - FREE!

I can only speak for myself, but a 25-page PDF is not what I have in mind when I'm wondering why WotC seems so hesitant to print D&D products.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the "setting guide" format defunct?

So you think if WotC did make a FR setting guide for 5E it would be more like the 4E one than the 3E one? If so, that's kind of my feeling as well. As much praise as I have heaped on 5E since release ... as far as the level of background detail is concerned, 5E feels very superficial to me...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the "setting guide" format defunct?

I totally agree about the difference between 3E and 4E Eberron campaign guides -- but that gap was even worse when it came to FR. (IMO, the 3E FR setting book was one of the best products across all of 3E.) Now FR is the default setting of D&D and there's not even a setting book of 4E quality...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Even if someone had established that no one thought 3E, 4E, or Pathfinder had too sparse of releases 3-9 months into their product life (which has not been established here) what would it matter? Did I somehow waive the capacity to opine that WotC is going too slow regarding 5E in March 2015...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the "setting guide" format defunct?

I have no evidence but it certainly seems that CRPGs are a key influence on APs.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

No, I'm not against third parties designing and publishing 5E material. I don't see how that topic is relevant to whether WotC is releasing 5E material too slowly. I think WotC is releasing stuff too slowly as well. Here's what I would count: July - Starter Box August - PHB, HotDQ September -...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Our exchange began because you responded to a post about WotC releases (itself in response to a post by you about WotC releases) by listing third-party releases. I called that response out as disingenuous and irrelevant. I'm not telling you what you can't talk about; I'm observing that your...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Mistwell: For the fourth? yeah I think fourth time, the thread is not about a lack of third-party 5E material. The thread is about WotC's slow release schedule. This difference is obviously inconsequential to you. It is just as obviously of consequence to other people. Of course posters on...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you allow this if you were the DM

I have no problem with power gaming in the context of roleplay. If someone wants to play a druid who trains to do martial arts in form of a bear, I am cool with that. If someone wants to play at my table to break 5E, I am not cool with it.

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

My read on the ICv2 ranks is, 5E is selling to a much wider audience than 3E/Pathfinder or 4E. I think people like us, the type of people who post on the EnWorld forum, mean a great deal more to Paizo than to WotC. We're also the demographic most likely to want more more more D&D stuff. And even...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the "setting guide" format defunct?

Point stands: FR qua campaign setting arose from play. We're getting off-track with hairsplitting again. The original point was, since at least 3E the assumption has been that DMs need setting guides -- but we can see the truth of things in the origns of some published campaigns. Golarion is...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Mistwell "Support" generally refers to something first parties do to increase the value of their existing products or product lines: expanding the line, organizing events and communities, reaching out to the market, etc. For example, I wouldn't call a third party mod for a video game "support"...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

I think you are on the right track Ace. Seems like the important thing is to have D&D-branded RPG books on the shelf to maintain the value of the IP for licensing purposes.
