    D&D 4E 4E Followers and Mercenaries

DMG2 has rules for making companions, which would be one mechanic to use for them. I'd make them a story point - if a PC wants an apprentice (or if the DM wants to saddle them with one), just go for it! I'd do it as a skill challenge, possibly, or let it evolve organically (the PCs rescue...

    D&D 4E Weem's 4e Companion Sheet

That looks very useful. I was just about to make a companion for a small-group I'm going to DM, so I'll see how it goes right now. Thanks very much!

    Druid Wild Shape

I must have read that 3 times at least without it sinking in. Back on the original question, I think I'd allow an unarmed attack in wild shape as a standard attack, simply because it's not unbalancing in any way I can see.

    Druid Wild Shape

Reading PHB2 again today, under druid it says you can't use weapon or wondrous item properties or powers in wild shape form, but _can_ use implement and worn item powers and properties (page 83). Under Beast Form on page 219 it says you can use a beast form power only while in beast form. On...

    Preorder, cancel, preorder, cancel etc

So, what's to stop you buying through an online seller yourself, rather than a distributer? I would guess there's a timing problem initially, but after that...

    Multiclassing.

My reading of it is that you can only spend that number of feats on swapping powers - BUT you can take additional class-specific feats from the "other" class as well as from your own. So you might take a 2nd level cleric feat instead of a rogue feat, for example. So, you could take all your...

D&D 4E 4ereviews opens with review of new DDM Starter Set

Sounds like Kathra from the DDXP pretty much to the detail. Moving near a 4E fighter is dangerous these days.

    DMG Excerpt: Customizing Monsters

This is how it is going to be in my campaign, RAW or not. Awesome idea.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Good point, I just reread the description. I'd been assuming it was a one-target-at-a-time deal. It seems odd that a mobile warlock could have most of the monsters on the battlefield cursed after a few rounds, though.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Can the warlock recurse at will? For some reason I had the idea that they could only recurse when the original target was dead (or the encounter over).

    Minions above 1st level

The existance of regen 3 on that minion implies one hit doesn't kill it.

    Tiers Excerpt (merged)

Just from some DDM cards I have lying around, the following all fly: Shadowhunter Bat - 3rd level Griffon - 7th level Gargoyle - 9th level I think it means no overland flight, only short-term flight, and even that will be limited. I think it also means no flying monsters with ranged attacks...

Playtest report: Hanging on a fence

This. First game I DMed of 4E had no RP at all - just combat. It _was_ tiring. Lots of looking up rules and re-reading monster abilities. By the third time, I wasn't having any trouble with the rules, people were RPing happening pretty consistently. I was a little disappointed with my first...

    D&D 4E Back to D&D with 4E - designing a new campaign world...

Thanks very much - those are some very handy links. Knowing the rough movement is much the same as the old days is all I need to know, too - I'm just trying to make things the right sort of scale so my isolated villages aren't too close together :)

    D&D 4E Back to D&D with 4E - designing a new campaign world...

I've DMed everything from Basic through to 2nd edition, for a looong time. When 3rd edition came around I was tied up by life so I never played it as a tabletop game, but I did DM a NWN campaign for about 18 months. So, I have experience, I've designed campaign worlds and so on, but I've no...
