    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

Well, inasmuch as any array of stats describes the actual (imagined) attributes of the character really, and you aren't simply playing the mechanics of the game (stat bonuses to skill rolls) completely separate from the conceptual world those attributes are attempting to describe. I mean, sod...

Dragonborn tho, Dude. Dragonborn should get a little HP recovery more per Stamina spent.....Because: Lizard.....

    Help with balancing my party

It's not Double Dice AND Max damage. It's Double the dice (Or the roll of the Dice)......2d8 on average is 9, 6d6 on average is 21. +5 gives and average of 35 damage for the sneak attack. The offhand attack averages at 8.5. If he hits. Yes, that's 43 Damage on the first turn, assuming he hits...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

There's more than enough people don't perceive it as a necessary pick - a better question is why your players believe it is necessary. The answer may well be: we like fighting stuff and the extra HP helps - at which point taking their Con away is going to feel unfair, because Con does what they...

    Help with balancing my party

OK - I was asking because if he shuts down during non-combat, and other's take up the slack, then OP-ing Combat is just where he engages with the game. Sounds like the majority of your guys are in it for the Combat, which is fine. In which case nudging them towards some optimization to keep up...

    Help with balancing my party

^------This. Lot's of this. It applies to so much when building encounters. Giving people an opportunity to shine is not an equal thing. You should sometimes lob undead at your cleric, and other times have anti-healing zones. Phys resistant monsters allow spell casters to shine. Areas with lots...

    Help with balancing my party

By my numbers, awesome equipment or clever multi-classing aside, the max he should be doing with a crossbow and assassinate is 8d6+4, or 52 and that's if he rolled 8 6's. The 'average' should be about half that, and an average non-crit should be about a quarter. I meant give the bad guy...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

There's a number of issues I see here: 1) All but a few classes NEED a decent con mod. As I'm mentioned before 5/7 of the Critical Role Team have CON as their 2nd Lowest stat and their game is doing alright....By your definition, Toughness should always be taken as it's equivalent to 4 points of...

    Help with balancing my party

OK - So I generally echo the sentiment above that something, numerically, feels a bit wonky. Consistent 50-odd damage at level 5 seems waaaaay too high, even with assassinate. 1d6 Crossbow doubled for a Crit (7) + 3d6 sneak doubled for a crit, (21) + DEX (3-4), that's 32 ish average, which...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

I kinda disagree with "poor class design"......You're viewing it from 1 perspective, and arguing it remains true for all perspectives. Firstly, if you're character is too MAD your array is basically chosen for you (e.g. a Monk's DEX doesn't add to melee damage instead of STR, only attack...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

Again, having 10 CON doesn't mean that you'll die of consumption if you ever go to a major town, and if the players think that, then you can have a dialogue in which you say 10 is Healthy Human. Hell, Generic Pub Dwarf should only have 12 CON and he can have ale for three meals a day. 14 CON for...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

That's a bit of a false equivalence. In the same way you can't "Git Gud" and mask your frailty if you've got naff CON, you can't "Git Gud" and use your skill to hit things if you've got a naff attack stat. D&D combat isn't a game about 'Skill', it's much more about 'choices'. I choose who to...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

It's not that "Your combat is too deadly", it's that they don't have a point of reference - I don't want to die in the first turn is likely to be the immediate thought as soon as you link CON to HP for a new player, because that's what they know and are unlikely to be risk adverse. Experience...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

There's feels like there are a ton of issues here being rolled into one problem with stat point allocation, and to assume that this problem never really occurred to WotC during the bazillion playtests they must've had, feels a little like missing the point. If players are desperate for HP...

D&D 5E (2014) A quick guide to Homebrewing any weapon concept

You could use 3d3 for weapon skill 11, technically. So a trident could be: Melee (2) Heavy (+6) Martial (+2) Thrown (-1) ....giving you a WS of 9, or 11 if used 2-handed (3d3). See, It works... Conversely you could as Fragile (2) (Bent tine on a roll of 1-2) from the additional rules...

    D&D 5E (2014) So Why Can't 5E Get a Video Game?

Pillars of Eternity had some really good mechanical crunch built into it, and a couple of the battles I fought were really intense and tough and just proper adrenaline charged full-bore panic. I stopped playing it after about 20% of the way through because the semi-real time/autopause feature...

D&D 5E (2014) A quick guide to Homebrewing any weapon concept

OK - getting back on track from the typical theory hammer arguments about effective DPR, realism, and how important lamenting over a dice size is....... I've added in some new properties (Fragile/Misfire, Specialist, Double-Weapon, Reliable, Fixed, Reloading, Bracer), and rebalanced the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weapons Table

That does put 2d6 brutal 1 at 8.16 damage. Making 3d4 a lesser option despite being the same points. Though granted that's a very specific case....

    D&D 5E (2014) Weapons Table

Ooof. 3d4 brutal 1 would be averaging nearly 9.5 per roll, or the equivalent of a d18! Brutal 2 would put that at 11.25! Plus Stat Mod! Yeah that's seriously OP compared to other weapons.
