Pathfinder 1E My players ask about CR...

The player can only "look it up" if you're using stock monsters straight out of the bestiary. More and more, I find myself modifying creatures and raising their level. We played PF1 for many years, and I will certainly agree that CR is only a very rough measure of critters' power in terms of...

Pathfinder 1E My players ask about CR...

I sometimes reveal a creature's level (or "CR" in PF1/DD3.5 parlance) during the post-game banter. But never in advance. At best I will drop hints at how overwhelmingly powerful a given creature is, but in narrative form.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: is it RAW or RAI to always take 10 minutes and heal between encounters?

Those are great examples of feats that offer additional options. My only quarrel with some feats is when they propose an action that really ought to be available to anyone with the skill. PF2 is better about avoiding "feat locking" actions than past editions, but it's still a risk, anytime new...

Pathfinder 2E Opinions on APs available on Roll20

Earlier this week I ran session 46 of a homebrew campaign that has been running on Roll20 since around session 15. It works fine for me, but the minimalist way I use it is probably atypical. I would strongly advise against paying to use it, though. I mean, if you have spare cash buring a hole in...

Pathfinder 2E Discussing a new PF2 healing paradigm

Earlier this week I ran session 46 of a homebrewed PF2 campaign, and I sincerely think that healing works fine out of the box. Sure, sometimes I handwave it, instead of requiring rolls. I don't want to waste table time figuring out if healing is going to take 10, 30, 50 minutes or whatever. My...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: is it RAW or RAI to always take 10 minutes and heal between encounters?

I just want to chime in here, even if I'm late to the party. PF2 is a fine game. I ran session 46 of a homebrew campaign last Tuesday, and we have introduced no significant rules variants or homebrewes fixes. It simply isn't necessary. The things that I have changed, at least compared to...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: is it RAW or RAI to always take 10 minutes and heal between encounters?

Capn, I often strongly disagree with your posts, but this one is pretty much on the mark. Healing to full hitpoints between fights is basically automatic, if the party has enough time to do it. Sure, you might fail a few rolls (especially at low levels) but the only real question is how long it...

Pathfinder 2E PF2: Second Attempt Post Mortem

If, for you, APs seem like a staightjacket, that means (IMHO) that you are focusing too much on the railroad, and not enough on the initiatives and goals of the players. For me, any published material is simply a toolbox that I dip into when setting things up and presenting situations to the...

Pathfinder 2E PF2: Second Attempt Post Mortem

There are so many games out there, that anyone can find one that suits their own particular predilections. If some folks prefer DD5, more power to 'em! I understand there are also new modmods arriving on the scene that take DD5 to a new level. That's great! Some folks like the old DD3.5 vibe...

Pathfinder 2E I feel at peace

When I ran the trip up through the Screaming Jungle, I didn't allow boat traffic, postulating a series of rapids that prevented significant river travel. The PCs had to advance on foot, braving the heat, humidity and diseases. I adopted the section on jungle diseases from Heart of the Jungle...

Pathfinder 2E Looks like I will be running a PF2e game in a few weeks...suggestions?

It's very true that PF2 has moved away from the economics of scarcity and detailed tracking of resources like food, torches and exhaustion. It's not that you can't play that kind of game in PF2, but more like there are so many ways to get around scarcity, added to the notion, misguided or not...

Pathfinder 2E Looks like I will be running a PF2e game in a few weeks...suggestions?

A lot of great stuff in this thread. I think one of the reasons some folks think PF2 isn't good for sandbox games is that they assume that every encounter only ends when one side or the other is dead. We didn't play that way in the 70s, and we don't play that way now. Not all encounters are with...

Pathfinder 2E Looks like I will be running a PF2e game in a few weeks...suggestions?

Capn, I strongly disagree with the entirety of your comments. A clever DM can use PF2 (or any other flavor of RPG) to run any of the types of games being discussed here. You can do "sandbox" games just as easily as with any other game. And far from being a "combat arena" centered system, PF2...

Pathfinder 2E I feel at peace

My modifications were centered around 3 themes: 1) Modern wizards are obsessed with the idea of lost Azlanti magic - my group began their quest on the trail of an evil wizard who had captured and maimed over half the group earlier in the campaign, and his "expedition" replaced the competing...

Pathfinder 2E I feel at peace

Hey, I'm late to the party, but I noticed you're also running Serpent's Skull in PF2. I've been using the second half of book 2 (Tazion) in a highly modified version for some 15 or so sessions now, and we're just beginning book 3 (Saventh-Yhi), again in a highly modified version. Notably, I've...

    Making Tokens for VTT

I just ran across this thread (after finding the brilliant hydra token on google) and have to say a big THANK YOU to Jacob. I've been running a highly modified Serpents Skull campaign for PF2 on VTT and I have to say these tokens are simply gorgeous. I do most of my tokens using Token Stamp 2...

    Pathfinder 2E multi-action spells

And now you do have that quickie magic missile, if you want, but it seems like such a waste to only spend one action on it, when with the same spell slot you can get 3 missiles with 3 actions. But it is nice how modular it is, and I find it's a pity that our pals at Paizo didn't make more spells...

    Pathfinder 2E multi-action spells

Actually, you have multi-action choices for many spells, now that metamagic takes an extra action. One of my players has gotten great utility with Reach Spell, which adds one action to the 2-action casting time of several short-range spells, to reach an enemy across a large battlefield.

    Pathfinder 2E Shield Cantrip Question

Yardiff, this question has been asked repeatedly on the forums, and while there is no definitive RAW answer, the general feeling is that even if you have multiple instances of the shield spell from different traditions, the cooldown period applies to all such instances. So no, once you've...
