    D&D 5E (2024) Expert Classes - Rules Glossary

In my games, the fact that you didn't actually roll the stealth check until someone was in range of detection. Plus, there was no gameplay incentive for farming natural 1s.

    D&D 5E (2024) Expert Classes - Rules Glossary

So, under the new hiding rule, what's stopping a plate wearing, 8 dex, non-stealth proficient character from attempting to hide over and over out of combat until they succeed? A DC 15 isn't that hard to beat if you have a couple minutes to spare. Hey, could even be a good way to farm natural 1s...

D&D 5E (2024) So shortsword is a simple weapon now...?

I mean, they could have just had the bard being proficient with simple weapons plus the short sword. Seems like a very weird way to go about it.

D&D 5E (2024) So shortsword is a simple weapon now...?

What a weird choice. What are they even trying to fix here?

    D&D 5E (2024) (+)One Big Thing I Would Change

It is the single biggest house rule I have ever implemented in a dnd game! Wouldn’t run 5e without it nowadays, though.

    D&D 5E (2024) (+)One Big Thing I Would Change

I’d make it so every spell (and class ability) with status conditions attached has hp thresholds, like the sleep spell does. I would also make it so, if the target fails its save but has too many hit points to be affected, some kind of reduced, minor effect is applied instead. With a system...

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

It's clearly against RAW and RAI, though. Obviously, everyone can run their game as they wish, but it is a straight-up buff to shield users. I'm much more in favor of a diversification of shield types.

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

Having to waste an action to doff a shield is something that comes up relatively often. The most common cases are: when the party has to deal with a flying or far away ranged opponents, and shield wearers need to put away their shield if they want to use their bows or crossbows (and another...

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

Does it really make sense to have a buckler that takes an action to don and doff, or do you also ignore that rule as part of reflavoring?

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

I enjoyed 4e and all its interesting powers, so I'd agree with that. Now we just need to persuade WotC!

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

I mean, it’s free if your class starts with shield prof, and many do. That said, giving such a feature to shields is not something I’m opposed to, as long as similarly powerful features are also given to two handed weapons, dual wielders, etc. As a feat (not even an half feat...), it's...

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

As a general shield feature, sure, why not. Could be cool. We would probably need some more general rebalancing of the various combat styles though.

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

As Charlaquin said, that's basically what the Defensive Duel feat does, and I feel that attaching such feature to a weapon for free would be too powerful.

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

I'm working with 5e's assumptions, here. A shield is +2, a small shield/buckler must be less than that. ...rapier-more-OP? Perhaps you missed that damage is reduced to 1d6, just like a short sword or scimitar? The +1 AC, if you also use a small shield, ends up being a +2, which is what a...

D&D 5E (2024) Bring back the small shield (also, a rapier fix)

5e was the first D&D edition I played that didn't have a small shield option. For the sake of simplicity, I guess. Let's fix that, shall we? Small Shield Cost 5gp AC +1 Weight 3 lb Don 1 object interaction Doff 1 object interaction It would be interesting...

    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

Maybe I am? 😄 Seriously though, I went into more detail on my other posts. I didn’t mean to suggest that rapier were actually used with two hands, despite what dark souls had been trying to teach us.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rebalancing melee weapons for 5.5E

Ad someone who played and DMed the crap out of 4e, and engaged in the CharOp forums, no, it never was. The best 4e powers generally had powerful rider effects on them on hit, and a couple points of damage were never worth a -5% chance of applying those riders.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rebalancing melee weapons for 5.5E

The only thing 4e weapons got wrong is the accuracy difference (weapons with +2 to hit Vs weapons with +3) because accuracy was king and a small damage bump was never worth a -1 to hit. As for OP’s weapon table, it’s designed well, but I doubt WotC would be willing to have weapons with d3 or...

    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

Perhaps having the rapier in the game at all is a mistake, without also having the rest of the gear it's usually employed with (buckler, parrying dagger).

    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

That doesn't sounds right to me. I'm no fencing expert, but from what little I've seen the combat style usually employs a buckler, a parrying dagger or a free off-hand, and again, from the few pictures and videos I've seen, the techniques used might be impaired by an otherwise fairly useless...
