Who else wants damage tracked separately per hit ?

Not even once do I want to track per hit damage.

What Player Abilities Should the Game Encourage?

One of the choices is "Should Be Punished", so yes...I think they do distinguish between the 2, and in fact go so far as to give the option to actively discourage via penalties. (in the poll, not saying they've done this in 5e)

Blog: Sneak Attack Vs. Backstab 3/28/12

Technically, 10d6*1.5, not 15d6. We always roll 10d6 and multiply the results (and could have sworn that's how they said it was to work, but I'm way too lazy to go find it right now)

What Player Abilities Should the Game Encourage?

I want to encourage all of those things. The DM should control his individual game as far as Puzzle Solving, Min-Max/Optimizing, etc. No way of playing the game is wrong or should be penalized by the book, in my opinion. That should be left to the groups involved. If they want a heavy...

Legends and Lore April 2, 2012

Sounds like a lot of railroading and deus ex machina to me. Not the style of game we play. The dice fall where the dice fall.

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

Healing surge mechanics are in? Awesome. I guess I'm out. That's not the game I want to play, personally.

An "open letter" to WotC staff on survey design

I agree with this. Considering that the people who frequent the WotC boards will be the ones still using their products OR actively searching out the polls. I can imagine their results will be skewed to a particular demographic, compared to if it was held in other locations.

    Get Rid of Proficiencies

Elves can, so bad example (in 3.5 they get Longsword/rapier proficiency free). :p But, yes, I do fully agree that Clerics should get their deity's favored weapon as a free proficiency, if it's not already granted. Limiting the weapons to simple (reflecting their lack of training with the kind...

Legends and Lore April 2, 2012

Regardless, I have never found 2 hours or 12th level to be close to reality (in my own 28 years of personal experiences). I would double the avg time, and drop the levels by 4. We end more campaigns either by TPK or boredom, or just running it's course by 8th, than any double digit ones. And...

    Get Rid of Proficiencies

YOU might not need them. Please don't speak for me though. Currently, there is nothing in the 3.5 rules about clerics not spilling blood or not using blades. That's a Pre-3 invention. Clerics can use daggers, crossbows, sickles, spears, javelins. What they can't do, is by default be...

    Get Rid of Proficiencies

I prefer to see non-proficiency penalties rather than bonuses. In fact, if they went to the 3rd edition style, I would be perfectly fine with it.

Legends and Lore April 2, 2012

My gaming group consists of busy working adults(all gainfully employed and over 30) with kids. We still manage to play every Sunday from 5-10 (or later) in 2 separate campaigns (2 DMs who swap every other week) We play our characters until the campaign ends (one way or the other), someone dies...

    Is this all for naught?

If it FEELS like older D&D games (to me, personal preferences here) and improves on 3.5/Pathfinder, I'll buy all the books and we'll start a campaign immediately. If, in my opinion, it feels more like 4e, I won't spend a dime on it and Paizo will continue to benefit from my overly spendy ways.

D&D 5E (2014) Pros and Cons of Kits, Prestige classes and Paragon paths. How 5e should handle it?

When someone suggests that charop boards should be burned to the ground, it's a pretty rough initial post. I go there to find options. While I may have 95% of all the WotC 3.5 books, I don't have hours to go through all of them and find what I need for a certain character. Sometimes I use...

D&D 5E (2014) Pros and Cons of Kits, Prestige classes and Paragon paths. How 5e should handle it?

So people who don't play like you are doing it wrong? Gotcha. There is absolutely nothing wrong with character optimization. I would rather play a game with optimizers than one where people think the game can only be played 1 way.

The Ranger: to Spell or not to Spell

I'm fine with the ranger casting spells. However, just like the Paladin, if they are going to cast spells, they need their own list. Using the druid list is just too much for what the ranger is supposed to be. I'd like to see them have certain druid spells that make sense for a wilderness...

The Cleric, The Paladin, and Multisysteming

The last part, I would agree with mostly. I do think a minor ability of a paladin could be to be BETTER at mounted combat, however that is a very very minor power addition.

The Cleric, The Paladin, and Multisysteming

Really? I would say we have had the option of doing mounted stuff probably about 20-30%. We have hada lot of non-dungeony adventures though. One of my last characters was a halfling druid that rode his wardog animal companion. Granted, only a medium instead of large, but the vast majority...

Blog: Sneak Attack Vs. Backstab 3/28/12

1d6 / 2 levels, not every level. I don't know what games you have played in, but the rogue was only the biggest damage dealer in very select instances. The pure casters were more potent almost all the time, and vs about 75% of the creatures in the game, the fighter/barbarian/warblade/etc also...
