Separating Attack and Utility Spell Slots

Not only no, but heck no, and other 4 letter prefaced no-s Sometimes you have to make choices when you play a wizard or other spell caster. That is part of what makes it feel like D&D to me

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

The issue I have with this is the killing blows, not the damage itself. The feat is balanced, but not believable to me WHEN used as the killing blow on a creature. Hitpoints, AS WRITTEN: So...you missed the kobold, but STILL managed a bleeding injury or some other trauma? Every time...

    Alternatives to At-Will Magic

I have less of a problem with at-will magic than I do with at-will impactful magic. Prestidigitation is one I could see casting all day. Mage hand? Sure. They are flavorful spells that don't usually have lasting in game effects, but are definitely "magical". If I want my wizard to show off...

Dear Wizards of the Coast blog post...

My company does Print-On-Demand for multiple multi-national companies, both in the US and Internationally, including manuals and training materials that are 3 times the size of a D&D book. If they cost anywhere close to 60 per book, you can blame WotC. I know exactly how much those books cost...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you play with "casual" gamers, and how should D&D Next accomodate their needs?

So...you want to put "casual gamers" first...when admitting they don't buy the books? Interesting theory. Not one I believe would work, or they should attempt, but ok. It's kind of necessary to sell books to have a game. Making a simple game aimed at people not buying the books seems rather...

    Variable HP for monsters

I often do this anyway. They definitely shouldn't use the avg if people want so much to have max hps. All monsters should also use max. Which, imo, leads to uneccessary bloating of damage, hps etc etc again.

    Bugbears are Easy Kills (Play-Test)

Automatic successes have existed since 3. Once you have 14 ranks of tumble, you can't fail the standard DC15 tumble, as 1's are not an auto-failure for skill checks. Same with using spellcraft to ID spells after a certain point, ride checks to dismount quickly, etc etc This isn't new, just...

    Magic items in Playtest

I hate wands providing +s to hit. That is a personal preference. I don't want to play Harry Potter as a default and "need" (in order to keep the power curve) implements to cast spells. I found that, FOR ME (and me alone, not speaking for anyone else) a needless kludge from 4e. I was hoping...

A really long honest post (would appreciate if you would also discuss my opinions)

I'm a 3.5/PF player through and through. I do agree that the sorcerer needs their own schtick. I may not agree 4e got it right, but I can fully agree they need to be different than wizards. Honestly? I'd rather they never had warlocks and instead made the sorcerer similiar to how Warlocks...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

Back in the old days? He got 1 for HPs. More recently? HP "Advantage", aka, player rolls once, DM rolls once. Take whichever roll you want. If both roll a 1, you get a 1.

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

We always roll for stats and HPs. Point buy and "everyone get's max hitpoints" seems boring and cookie cutter, to me personally. If they want to have those as options, I have no problem with it. I'd rather they stick with D&D tradition for the default. Other people's opinion may vary.

Surprise (-20 Init) the penalty that won’t go away

those who do the surprising should get a bonus, not a penalty for those surprised. IMO Easier to count down, and negative initiative numbers irritate me :D

    The RogueHalfling In Detail

    Should be : Throw a Dagger/Use a Sling 20 feet versus armor class at 1d20+5(dexMod:+3, someTo-HitBonus+2)damage 1d6+3(1d4-->1d6? dexMod:+3, noSomeTo-HitBonus?) 5e uses feet, not squares.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e digital offerings?

I did think of one thing they might get a few bucks out of me for. A WELL designed Kinect/XBL interface for online gaming. I might pay a small fee for that. I'd love to be able to use the Kinect for that.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e digital offerings?

There is almost nothing they could offer that would make me want to pay them to re-access my own material EXCEPT, pdf copies of all owned books when you pay for an X month subscription. And to be fair, I'd rather just be able to pay a small fee (because free would be too awesome) to get copies...

LONG REST: let's add some realism.

I'd prefer, instead of full healing overnight, you instead heal your hit dice in healing. 4th level wizard recovers all of his "hit dice" for use with healing kits, and also recovers 4d4 hps. 6th level fighter gets back 6d10, etc etc If you are really low on hps, with no magic healing, you...

So the playtest is out: What do you think? The EN World poll!

Pretty happy with it so far. I hope they keep the current % mix of editions they have appear to have wrapped up in it now. Love: Rolling for stats and hps (and lower hps overall) No grid, movement in feet Return to more dangerous SoD Advantage/Disadvantage Overall feel says "D&D" to me...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

I would say that as a default, rolling has been used for the vast vast majority of D&D, and has always (to me) been one of the traditions, like rolling for stats as the default. I wouldn't be opposed to a sidebar with the rounded edge version though, for people opposed to rolling.

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

We roll right on the table when leveling. It's never been an issue.
