Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

The randomness of attack rolls can mean that a party is wiped. The randomness of saves can mean that someone dies when they really shouldn't. The game is built on random rolls. I find that I enjoy that not every character looks the same because of point buy. I like rolling hit points. Over...

    Bring back spell memorization times

Vancian casting has 30+ years of tradition. As such, I think "D&D" when I see it. In the Vancian system, when a wizard casts a spell, the matrix is lost from his memory, and he needs to wait a day to rest and re-memorize the spell. He spends time each day to do so. I can cast 1 fireball...

Elephant in the room: rogue and fighter dailies.

Sadly for you, I think you might not be a 5e purchaser then. I would wager dollars to donuts that AEDU is gone.

    My grievance with D&D races

Humans are probably the most common around our tables. I do have a soft spot in my heart for Illumians, as I feel the Lore Delver was one of the most fun classes to play in 3.x. I would like to see more emphasis placed on the core 4, with a handful of other given some space in the core book...

Healing Fully With Rest - Is It Really That Big of a Deal?

I'd rather see a restoration of all spent "healing hit dice" and a free roll of max hit dice after the 8 hours of rest. 6th level fighter with at least 1hp would then reset all of his healing hit dice in morning and roll 6d10 to determine his restored stamina, scrapes, wounds, etc from over...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

So you mean 2 people who share a class may have varying levels of "stamina", "pain tolerance" and ability to handle minor wounds? Sounds about right to me. A fighter with a Con of 16 will, at 20th level, have a minimum of 76 hps and a max of 216. D&D played this way in 3rd edition as well...

    Bring back spell memorization times

Because if you read about the playtest, they said they would be using the simple fighter to test the first go round. As they get deeper into the playtest, the complex fighter will make an appearance. That info has been repeated a few times. Dailies, encounters etc, will be a big strike...

    Bring back spell memorization times

Nope. I'm loving the new system. No need for a grid. Actually feels like D&D, not a minis game. It's awesome so far.

    Drunken Master... wizard!

I doubt the Drunken DR sticks around, but it is amusing.

    Rant After Play-Test

Paizo makes it's money on APs and other things, more so than PHBs (I'd guess somewhere in the 10times more area). Wizards can't hold a candle to Paizo adventures. The game itself might not be that much better than 3.5, but the adventures are head and shoulders better and the region specific...

    More concerns over hit points

I'm loving the rolled hit points. I would rather see Rolled HD + Con than Rolled HD OR Con, whichever is higher

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Playtest Readthrough: Eh, It’s OK

Again, who cares? People are complaining everywhere about this or that, I'm just happy he's got some reasons, whether or not I agree.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Playtest Readthrough: Eh, It’s OK

Re-read his quote. He's judging the playtest docs. That seems perfectly reasonable, during, you know, the playtest. Even if I don't agree with him, I don't see any issues. Everyone is so touchy.

    Run It

If you read the OPTA, you might see you were sworn to a lot of things ;) To that end, modifying the game is useless to them in this stage of the feedback.

    Wizards: Already Too Strong?

Doesn't look too strong at all.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

Not even a little. I can play with my friends in person.

    Run It

100% agree. I've seen a few things I don't like at face value, but I'm going to go with them for now. Doesn't do any good to test our own version of the game.

Long Rest - Regain Full Hit Points

I'll play it as written for now, but I'd prefer a little harsher in the final game. I am one of those people who likes to see a balanced party though, so I expect to see a cleric or someone with the ability to heal outside of combat making it a non-issue. There should be drawbacks, in my world...

Monsters with spell lists is not a good sign

Monsters with spells is awesome, so I have to disagree. Monsters following the same rules as PCs would be even more awesome in my opinion. Not EVERY monster needs special abilities or spells though.

    D&D 5E (2014) I don't like Dragonborn: Please stay away from D&D Next.

Dislike them intensely. Having them as a CORE option would be a strike against the edition. Having them as a module along with tieflings, etc for specific settings? Sure, no problem with that. It's much harder to remove all references from core from such a controversial race than it is to...
