    Ok,how horrible is this

But even in this case, wouldn't it simply be more effective and easier to simply use the standard old 'human shield' tactic, of taking hostages, and, if necessary, simply holding them in front of you, or hiding behind a crowd of them? i'm all for making Bugbears seem evil and reprehensible, but...

D&D 4E Updating Tomb of Horrors to 4e...and 4e seems to wussy.

It would be nice if you would actually be honest. First, given the number of postings here and elsewhere about TPKs in 4e, your statement that you can 'hardly die' must either be viewed as woefully uninformed, deliberately false, or as a claim that many posters on multiple boards are lying...

    Swit Charge Question

And, as I was trying to point out, this is an ongoing debate. No matter how vociferously you argue one side, someone else is going to argue the other side. No matter how continuously you point out that their position is obviously inconsistent and wrong, they are going to level the same claim...

    Swit Charge Question

Right. This is part of the debate. The barbarian Swift Charge is a Triggered Free Action. There's multiple rules interactions that are, at best, not completely clear: After a charge, your turn ends immediately and you can take no more actions without an action point. Free Actions can be...

D&D 4E Updating Tomb of Horrors to 4e...and 4e seems to wussy.

Actually, I think it would be quite possible to do a good Tomb of Horrors in 4e, because of the high hit points, healing surges, and absence of "save or die" mechanics. High hit points mean that you can easily create traps with damaging auras, ongoing damage, easily triggered attacks, etc...

    Dealing with talk monkeys

Also, even a really, really good diplomacy roll is a first step to resolving this situation without a conflict. Our party rogue crept up to the Troll Warren gates, and then tried a Bluff check (I want to ally with Skalmad, the unkillable troll king!). She got a fantastic roll. This led the...

    The "Bubble"

I'd like to think about it from the perspective of the "bubble-maker". I think that shift in perspective might give us some insight into the "bubble". Why would someone knock an enemy prone, then move one square away from them, rather than remaining adjacent, or moving further away? Note that...

    Avenger Multiclass Feats

That's true for the Discipline of Divine Wrath, so it works that it is largely a two round power. I was just brainstorming about how you might make Hero of the Faith weaker than it currently is, but distinct from DDW. Only allowing the Oath to work for one turn makes it seem weaker than DDW...

Different styles of healers, lets hear em!

I would definitely look at Cleric, both because the Healing powers are really good, and because they are really flexible. You can get powers that heal when you smite people, if you want to be really aggressive. You can get very dedicated pacifist healing powers. In addition, if he wants to be...

    DM needs advice

First, I would talk to the player, not to 'correct' them, or anything, but to make sure that you understand his motivations and goals. Does he want to become the "undead smiter" or did he just kind of fall into that path? How does he envision the character developing? Second, I would share...

    A few rogue questions

Sehanine is a good all-purpose Rogue deity, though you might also follow Avandra, especially if you are more good than unaligned. Two Weapon Fighting and Two Weapon Defense are the basic two feats for Dual Wielders. There are others which you can take as well. Especially since all thrown...

    Avenger Multiclass Feats

Yeah. It's frustrating, because I like a multiclass which allows you a choice of skills, and, background-wise, it makes sense for my Dwarf Barbarian, but as a single feat, Hero of the Faith is just really way too good. I think it might be OK if the Oath lasted the entire encounter, but you...

    Avenger Multiclass Feats

Try just imagining anyone with a Jagged High Crit Weapon and Hero of the Faith. This feat is just too good. My barbarian would love it, as well as my fighter. Why not put the oath on the bad guy with the most hit points each encounter, and then just hit (and crit) away on him? It's way more...

Favorite conversion you did? Worst conversion you did?

I ran the original Ravenloft adventure (minus the campy humor in the crypts) as a GURPS adventure. Awesome, and brutal. Totally, totally worked. I don't know if my favorite moment was when the "fighter" was roaming around the town square at night, and heard a faint sussurus of clicking...

    Fighter Essentials

Ask my Dwarf Pit Fighter (with Marked Scourge, Devoted Challenge, and Hero of the Faith) that. No really, ask him. (He's just cranky waiting for Wary Fighter. Better initiative, and better Insight and Perception too? Yay!) Having said that, it is very nice to have options for the DEX...

    Is the Tratnyr underpowered?

Agreed. Put this one handed spear on a dragonborn with a shield, Tide of Iron, Draconic Arrogance, Draeven Marauder, and the plethora of feats that help you push and knock prone your opponent. Proceed to knock everything you fight down, push it away, and do your STR to them, twice (once for...

    Stopping the Charge.

I'm going to chime in and say: Yes, the target can continue its charge move towards you. There's nothing in the rules to say that you have to "declare" how many squares you are charging. Weave through the Fray should be used carefully, such as on distant enemies, or when adjacent to friends...

    Delaying Initiative.

Let them do it. It conveys no mechanical advantage whatsoever. They are choosing to go later in the initiative sequence. Think of it like this: --------First Round Player A Monster A Player B Monster B --------Player C---does not go. Monster C ------------Second Round Player C Player A...

    Slow combats

I'm having a problem with the long combats too. Fortunately, they aren't "the grind", but rather, almost the opposite. We are averaging about 2 combats in a 4.5 hour session. That's not as bad as it sounds, because before and between those two combats are usually two good, fun, interesting...

Darkness and the Black Dragon - Need advice

I'm in the camp that sees no problem with the dragon too. If the dragon decides to "hole up" in his darkness, the party can retreat, either to cover, or even outside of the encounter area. They have healing surges, and the dragon has ONE, which he can only use in an extended rest. Don't...
