    What RPGs genres are lacking?

The majority of western setting adventures are for Deadlands... and that's a weird west. There's a few seeds in the Challenge article for Space 1889 in the US, there are some adventure ideas in Western Hero... Most games that don't have compatibility with D&D lack adventures... at least ones...

    Mini-games in an RPG

I've often used a minigame affected by character skills for resolving gambling. It's really quite simple... Mind you, this was for CT, but works in MT and MgT 1 as well. each gambler antes. each rolls d66. if not cheating: → add 1/2 skill level, round up, to the 1's place → add 1/2 skill...

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

1883 and Lawman: Bass Reaves argue otherwise. There were a few black Lawmen, so L:BR is merely Historical Fictiion in the Western tradition. Moribund? Maybe, but every time it's been declared, some new variation of Westerns arises like a zombie. Note: I don't consider myself a fan of westerns...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Only for players are they synonymous. Reread pages 149-152 Almost every PC action which uses a roll will trigger a GM move - note that that's usually going to be → Show how the world reacts. → Ask a question and build on the answer. In the case of rolls with hope, if the player doesn't have...

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

There's a new Non-Weird non-AltHist west game coming... Hurled into Eternity. it's card driven, and otherwise OSR sensibilities. Playtest material on an OS/OSR D&D board. I love his cover art:

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Keeping in mind that bad rolls has two meanings... Rolled with fear rolled non-tie below TN One of my players hit the expletives when he rolled a 2... until the others pointed out that doubles are a crit, no matter the TN. Also, a roll of fail with hope is a GM move trigger but not a GM...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

They set the terms they want. Use it or don't. Bitching about them not using your favored license? Take it up with their attorney... I'm certain it will be billed time... The CEO of Wizards and the CEO of HasBro both disagree... and the proof of that is not just that they tried to cancel the...

How many "steps" is too many?

Daggerheart's is a bit easier... despite the extra step. Also, you left out several steps on both: state target, check for modifiers/advantage/disadvantage from the situation Spend Hope/Inspiration It's not the steps for me; it's the complexity of the worst step. And if the result is...

I found one of my grandfather's hats... It's a bit too small for me. It needs a careful cleaning, reblocking, and to be about 2 sizes bigger... It was his gardening hat.

    Show your game prep notes

The trick is finding the point where your notes are still useful, but don't include too much extra. The reason I write my detailed notes on system mechanics is that paraphrasing the rules forces me to engage with them while reading, a standard educational technique ("outline the chapter")...

    Winning and losing in RPGs...

You're choosing to use half the accepted definition of the term, where both the rules and what happens in play are the game; you are then complaining that others are using the full definition. You're basically coming across as arguing in bad faith by redefinition of terms for other than...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

You don't have a right to use other people's things. That they license it should be more than enough; the OGL has created a whole class of self-entitlement-delusion individuals demanding everything be made available free. They are, fundamentally, thugs demanding Devs work for nothing. it's not...

    Free League Year Zero Engine

I'll note that I've only had one (of about 20) players have any issues with the action economy in YZE... across T2K4, Alien, Vaesen, and Blade Runner... but that one also was in middle school age. Many grasped it pretty quickly...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Because it's not the wrong tool. It's a tool that can hit the parts of dungeon crawling many of us care about. See, the most important thing about a dungeon, both by my read, and by the advice in many rulebooks, is the forced sequencing, and limited choices of movement. This makes a dungeon a...
