Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

RuneQuest in the 1983 to 1992 timeframe was in fact simpler than D&D. That's RuneQuest 3rd ed timeframe. In the 2006-2012 timeframe, the Mongoose versions of RQ were out. Equally as simpler than current D&D at the time. Neither of those were tied tightly to Glorantha.

    Get The Daggerheart SRD Here

3rd parties who are not lawyers and who start out with an apparent dislike of Darrington and CR... not a terribly reliable source of info, either. There really is no better method than hiring a lawyer specializing in IP to review it and brief you. Devon, Legal Eagle, is a bit busy with...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

TSR did them, too. One around 1991; I recall the average on the early 90's one was just over 2 years, but the median and mode were both about 1 year. (So a long right leg distribution.) WotC did several - one around the start of 4e dev, one around the start of 5e.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

30 years ago, June 1995... amongst the game groups I knew... AY was on year 5... but 3 of his starting 4 had been replaced after they moved out of state. Ship of Theseus issues? RCM was running two campaigns, both under 6 months. I was running 3 campaigns, 1 Traveller, 1 Pendragon, and 1 Prime...

    Do You Care About Cosmology?

YUP! Mythology really doesn't apply in the technical sense, as the beings we'd label mythological are cosmological forces within the majority of D&D settings... Mythology is the fantasy written to explain the world's cosmology... But in D&D, it's often written such that the gods actually did...

    Get The Daggerheart SRD Here

Creative Commons is convoluted, and isn't ONE license, but a family of more than 6 variations. Further, Creative Commons wasn't intended for mixed license material - as in, listing a raft of sections as product identity and thus off limits. It can be used that way, but it's not a standard...

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

I actually liked the Rules Companion scaling rules... where capping was "above cap = 0" instead of 2E's "above cap = cap"... But I prefer 2.0 over 1.0, 1.5 (Core+RC), or 2eR&E. Tho the 1e rules do have scaling... see paage 65... only two explicit: Starfighter and Personal.

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

Agree. 2nd ed, however, was easier to use for many-on-many, at the expense of using a map. (not of need gridded.) Also, I liked the Star Warriors boardgame, which had integration with 1e. Yup. I disagree... but I'll note that they're always a compromise on usefulness vs realism vs playability...

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

It is compatible. They're modding a few subsystems - most especially stress - so that it's not as drastic outside of terror-inducing circumstances. Not gotten a good read in (been busy with Daggerheart and Fallout), but it's going to be noticeable in play.

Ran my first session of Star Wars D6: Big Damn Heroes

You can get the rules, scrubbed of the setting info, in the form of D6 Space. (and DTRPG does have a POD option). The only major mechanical change from 2eR&E is adding Advantages/Disadvantages. (There are several minor ones in combat, but only rules lawyer types are going to really notice them.)

No Initiative Order: How Do You Do It?

I ran the no initiative no rounds version of Daggerheart last sunday. For that first combat being in a system new to the whole group... it was a bit hard to adjudicate playing by VOIP. It ran smooth as butter except for the talking at the same time issue. The second combat, I used the 3 actions...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

You may want to note the option for a 4th HP on sufficiently high damage hits... See the SRD, p 39, LC callout box or Core Rules p91, RC callout box.

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

I always have an ending time in mind for a campaign. I often want to switch games at such breakpoints. So desire to retain same system is, to me, an objectionable assumption. Further, most of my friends who GM are also multi-system GMs, and so system continutity isn't a factor any of us (me and...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

As a side note: the foes in the QS are not in the corebook... Also - the sablewood guide provides an environment for the village of Hush. I'll also note: the QS adversary blocks are not up to the standard set in the corebook. They are missing the description and motivation/tactics lines. The...

    Non-fantasy RPG suggestions?

No. But here's the nutshell standard 4-attributes for YZE. Attributes rated by die-size (d6/d8/d10/d12), skills by die size (no-die/d6/d8/d10/d12) Difficulties adjust size of dice: Harder lower the dice; easier increase the die size. Skilled actions never drop below 2d6. A 6, 7, 8, or 9 on a die...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Not always. I'll start with my definition of Person: a member of a clade noted for intellect with free will and logic, and the ability to act based upon the interaction of perception, intellect, reason, and logic. D&D, RuneQuest 3rd, GURPS, and others have distinguished full intellegence from...

    Non-fantasy RPG suggestions?

snip Twilight 2000 4e is actually pretty straightforward; I found it perfectly cromulent. If you are looking for that setting, 4e is the simplest mechanics. 2e (available in PDF) and 2.2(also in PDF) are a more traditional mechanic. 4e is (att die)+(skill die) count successes on 6+ (all...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Yeah, a lot of people don't actually read the rules... as for Jedi Academy... never saw the sourcebook... only read part of one of the novels, too. That's also into the 2R&E era, and there was a lot of stat bloat...
