Attacking Grappled Creatures: Who gets hit?

I don't see why really. If you shoot a bolt at a Darkmantle that's enveloped a PC for example, chances are the bolt will embed itself in the Darkmantle easier and with less chance of hitting the PC, not more. Stabbing it with a Rapier would not only hurt the Darkmantle but also the PC...

Touch attack for Evard's Black Tentacles?

That might prove informative at least ;).

Attacking Grappled Creatures: Who gets hit?

Ok but it doesn't say that in the table. Where else is that printed? Just curious. Btw Patryn, do you know about this? uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh uhoh It says that under your posts.

Attacking Grappled Creatures: Who gets hit?

Where does it say ranged has a chance to hit and not melee? That doesn't make sense at all anyway, even if that's printed.

Touch attack for Evard's Black Tentacles?

Their BAB is +6/+7. If they have higher strength scores, they'll need like 18 Str to get it to +10, which is still pretty bad. +10 vs +16 is quite a difference, and that's probably the best possible circumstance.

Touch attack for Evard's Black Tentacles?

Yeah same here. Freedom of Movement is usually used for underwater combat IME.

Touch attack for Evard's Black Tentacles?

Also one thing about the damage... if you wait long enough, damage from Evards is insane. At 10th level, your fireball does 10-60 damage. Evards: 1d6+4 = 60-100 damage at 10th level. Granted, the damage is slow to act, but it is very, very unlikely any spellcaster not prepared, or Rogue /...

Touch attack for Evard's Black Tentacles?

I'm the DM mentioned... ;) Freedom of Movement won't work unless it's already in place. Can't cast it becuase it requires somatic components. Same with Divne Power. Rogues can try to use Escape Artist, but I've yet to see a PC or even NPC that has skills in it.

Attacking Grappled Creatures: Who gets hit?

I noticed on an old 3.0 table that attacking creatures that are grappling each other means you determine randomly to see who gets hit. What about in 3.5? In particular an issue came up where one of my PC's was grappled by a Darkmantle, and other characters attacked it. Now if the Darkmantle is...

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

I would rule that the only result from creatures making their save is that they aren't affected by the spell, but everything else is. The spell is not dispelled when cast on an area and one creature makes it save. It just means that creature alone is unaffected.

Getting those potions out in combat: How long?

That seems a bit unlikely. I'm pretty sure a potion is the size of say a shot glass (which is exactly one ounce). You'd have to have huge teeth to be able to hollow one out and fill it with a potion! I rule that lighting oil is a move, throwing is standard. So: 1 To get out oil is a...

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

I agree with both here, but I don't think interpretting a saving throw for creatures brought into the area contradicts the text. Even if it does *a little*, it makes a huge difference in balancing out this spell by granting a save. Neither the spellcaster or the creatures lose out in any...

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

I know but I was thinking of the situation where you have a spellcaster, say, on a raised platform surrounded by a chasm, or even just a small room with only one exit. It just seems too easy to be able to take out high level spellcasters with this spell if their mobility is limited.

Getting those potions out in combat: How long?

You could rule in this case that a potion has been 'inbibed', as the mouth and pores inside begin absorbing the potion on contact whether he wants to or not, so the potion simply sinks into the being even if he doesn't swallow. It makes sense on another level. What about the unconscious, downed...

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

Well I thought applying a saving throw would be a little less extreme. If said lich fails his save, then I consider that a fair result. It's the 'Saving throw: None' that bothers me more than anything else to be honest.

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

Yes you could take Silent Spell feat, but then what spell would you memorize as Silenced? You might have one spell, say Dispel Magic or Teleport maybe. But that burns away a 4th level or 6th level spell slot for the Clerics 2nd level slot. Then what happens when the cleric casts it a second...

Silence - Broken? & My House Rule

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, though I'm having a hard time finding threads on it. Forgive me I'm new on these boards relatively speaking. Anyway there are certain spells I consider overpowered. A recent problem I see arising is Silence. It's a 2nd level spell capable of...

    Languages for Celestial Animals?

I think so too. I don't understand how a Celestial animal knows common when no intelligent creatures on that plane would ever speak it. They'd choose to speak Celestial first over Common, even if they can speak Common. Another thing mentioned, why ever bother learning any of the Outsider...

    Languages for Celestial Animals?

My Monster Summoning PC's are trying to communicate with the Celestials they summon. None of them speaks Celestial, and the only creatures they summon have the base intelligence of 3 (which is the minimum for a Celestial creature, regardless of the animal summoned). So, in the Monster Manual it...
