D&D 5E (2024) The Great Nerf to High Level Martials: The New Grapple Rules

no agility is enhanced by strength is enhanced by dexterity......same thing with wisdom, intelligence. But it's not real world and we have our simple game yard sticks so that doesn't matter.

D&D 5E (2014) DM imposed restrictions to the game (+)

depends on the game......any and all of those could apply depending on the game I'm running.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

well it's common sense. You either have a predetermined set of rules or you have Anarchy. The rules can be adjusted along the way but demanding that everyone gets to change them at will is ...well...."anarchy". This might be ok for some tables but for most it's just not going to work. How is...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

] or your DM has fallen prey to the same black and white thinking that historically has led to the hate the new guy problem that has always existed in the real world. which leads quite easily to the take the new guys stuff and then kill the new guy so we dont have to deal with him later...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Funny thing is I've never seen anyone talk about players that refuse to accept what other players come up with. I've had the players at my table just tell the new player "no we aren't playing with that character". That's happened more than me telling players what they can't play. It's not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Snow-Sweeping/Clearing Cantrip

Yeah Move snow/water seems like the way to go. then you just limit it to how many pounds of snow you can move and how far you can move it.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Honestly no matter how the table runs, there aren't enough DM's and most who don't want to DM aren't going to argue too much with those who do. They just want to play and generally you play the game offered or you find another. Only on D&D forums do people rant and rave about it.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I'll say this. None of the friends I have playing it play D&D the way BG does. I wouldn't play it that way.

Worlds of Design: A Worthy End?

I see a lot of effort on forums to balance encounters other than 4e (from what I hear) i haven't seen any actual balancing. 5e just flipped it the the other way and made D&D Anime, 3rd edition by the designers own words didn't care about balance and 3.5 was an attempt to reel in the Whale so...

Worlds of Design: A Worthy End?

I don't think any edition changed the paradigm. Seems about the same to me now in 5e as it did in 1e.

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

Marketing teams have been fighting the fact that when people pay for something they expect to have something. it's why CD's still exist there are people that won't stream music because they can't own it. Simple psychology you and every person on earth is wired to physically accumulate things...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is animate dead considered inherently evil?

I've seen people play druids that way and if they want to it's fine. We can't even get senior members of churches in real life to agree with each other. Why can't druid be the same.

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

how did we ever play games before the internet was there to make sure we did it the right way?

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

if it didn't matter marketing teams wouldn't spend millions trying to convince everyone that it doesn't matter.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is animate dead considered inherently evil?

I never liked the idea of truly nuetral people. That's why I always run druidic orders in 3 (the magic number). ng the shepards, NE the dark druids, nature's wrath, and N the balance between the two where you'll usually have the Heirophant in charge. Maintaining nature's balance leaves...

Worlds of Design: A Worthy End?

combat are simply speedbumps on the way to achieving goals in our games. An important part of the game yes. but the point of the game not even close.

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

the Unkillable thing depends on the mythos and tends to become assumed because of modern religions. but even in the Mythos's where gods are unkillable they can be defeated and imprisoned. so Unkillable doesn't really mean undefeatable. But I have yet to see a video game that has the depth...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is animate dead considered inherently evil?

I'd The original celtic druid didn't know about undead. The 1st edition celtic druid was all about Life and death. Not Undeath. this is an incredibly amount of energy to twist that completely opposite it's intended role. A 1st edition druid could kill anyone, ressurrect anyone and still be...
