The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

Here's what Ed himself said on the matter. I directly asked him when having this very discussion in another thread, and this is his answer. A SS of the asnwer.

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

Yes, it is when it comes to Ed Greenwood and the Realms. As I explained above, it's a clause to his contract with TSR, which WotC inherited. You may not accept it as lore for your game, like many do even with WotC's material, but it still is canon. Ed Greenwood made sure that such clause was...

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

It's a clause to Ed's contract that all he says about the Realms is canon unless contradicted by TSR. That was "inherited" by WotC. As for the explanation and canon. I don't care about canon in my game. I don't need you to tell me that I can do whatever I want. However, continuity is important...

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

If you're interested, Ed Greenwood provided an explanation for Tiamat. Given that WotC hasn't contradicted it (nor they will ever bother to, ofc), it's even official.

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Deities

From the top of my mind, Eilistraee canonically has followers of any races. Among humans, she is especially worshiped by hunters and huntresses. I'm sure there's more, but I'll need to research them. In any case, I never said that there's simmetry, but that's not very surprising, given that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Deities

Humans do worship non human deities. That has happened, and still happens. Corellon fits into the scheme of magic because Mystra is the Weave, while he's the deity of elven arcane traditions, including High Magic and the likes. Mystra has become human, but she originally wasn't. She was more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Deities

To me it makes perfect sense. Even we humans have a lot of different days of rest/festivities and what you have. In the Realms, even humans use different calendars than other humans. That makes even more sense considering language barriers and absence (or sparse accessibility) of the fast travel...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Deities

That's why IMO, it's all in the presentation. Offer a list with the main deities of the setting, and most people will pick from it. Those who want to go more in-depth and take more niche deities will also have access to deeper lore, which wouldn't be forced on anyone. However, a lot of deities...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Deities

I'm really fond of them, but only when their history and what they are is strictly tied to that of their people. For example, in the Realms the elves and their gods (which includes the drow and their gods) share a special kind of relationship. They aren't just names to worship, they have been...

D&D 5E (2014) Help me define Mother Night (CoS)

In the Realms drow are not the same as they are in Greyhawk. if you read their story, then it's only logical that there is a non neglectable number of them who aren't evil--even more so because Corellon cursed a lot of innocent dark elves. Eilistraee is actually *old*. She dates back to Ed...

D&D 5E (2014) Help me define Mother Night (CoS)

IIRC, before Curse of Strahd, both deities were believed to be no longer active, although I'm aware that Mother Night is active in the latest book (that's why I used the wording in my post), so I thought that it was a recent thing. I didn't mean to imply that she was flat out evil, but she...

D&D 5E (2014) Help me define Mother Night (CoS)

On a side note, unless you want this to be some kind of surprise effect, I'd advice to discuss it with your player first. Maybe she/he has made the faith in Eilistraee a big part of her character, and wouldn't be happy to see it taken from her. For example, the plotline I mentioned in my...

D&D 5E (2014) Help me define Mother Night (CoS)

Eilistraee and Mother Night seem to have little in common (aside being somehow tied to the night, ofc). The former stands for beauty and hope, and tries to be a loving mother to all drow; the latter has even been believed to have abandoned the Barovian people for a long time. That said, Mother...

D&D 5E (2014) New Deities Moving Into Forgotten Realms

If you're playing SKT, then know that all the Mulhorandi gods have returned with the Sundering (pretty much any deity that disappeared in any way during or before the Spellplague is now back). As for whether Isis would find worshipers in the Dessarin Valley or in the Golden Fields, she has all...

D&D 5E (2014) New Deities Moving Into Forgotten Realms

Yes. The elven deities, the drow deities, and the Mulhorandi deities are all from other spheres. Tyr too. Although the elven and drow deities mostly followed up their followers' migration rather than moving on their own and seeking new followers.

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC & Novels

Yes, but Ed has recently said that the Promenade is being retaken, and that "stuff is happening down there" that he can't talk about yet. With the recent hints about Halaster and the Undermountain, I wouldn't be surprised if Qilué made a reappearance as a Voice in the Weave, like Dove and Syluné...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC & Novels

For an update on the Lady Penitent novels, as of the 1490s/5e, Ed Greenwood has revealed that Eilistraee did actually manage to survive thanks to help of Mystra, so did Vhaeraun. This is taken from the wiki (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Eilistraee#cite_note-36) The two are now back to...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC & Novels

No, they haven't been mentioned. Eilistraee has returned to life after the Sundering, and she is her normal drow self, with drow followers. Her main focus, according to Ed Greenwood's Death Masks, seems now to be helping her people building stronger relationships with humans (starting from...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

When I think druid, I immediately think shapeshfting, and magic based on the elements of nature, animal/plant life, or on the moon/sun cycle. Animal companions don't come to mind, although being able to befriend and convince animals to join your cause surely is fitting.
