    Confused about LFR character creation.

And, yes. You can create an Essentials character for LFR play.

    Thief + to hit crazy?

Accuracy and DPR go hand-in-hand. A discussion centered on whether-or-not a class is broken because of its accuracy will end up using DPR as a benchmark. The thief is no more absurdly accurate than a standard rogue. KarinsDad - your numbers aren't right. A first level PHB-only rogue with CA...

    List of Broken Powers

Iron to Glass (Cleric 5). Has a similar damage-reducing effect to Astral Condemnation but it lasts until the end of the encounter with no sustain requirement. Solos (particularly the newer-style solos with multiple attacks) and swarms are virtually nullified.

    DPS Pally

If CHA primary isn't a requirement, a Half-Orc STR Paladin with a Mordenkrad is just beyond sick at heroic tier. Blood of the Mighty or Heedless Fury combined with the Half-Orc's Furious Assault and Divine Strength can one-shot enemies. Get your hands on a Badge of the Berzerker, an Avalanche...

Why does Belt of Vigor only go to +3?

This is, precisely, the campaign I've been in for the last couple of months. Inherent Bonuses, extraordinarily rare magic items, and bonus feats at 3rd level and every five levels thereafter to make up for the lack of magic item properties. That's been working out quite well so far; I'd...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

Noooooo, the original theory was that the Ranger was capable of dishing out more damage in a round than the Rogue. The point was to demonstrate that the Rogue isn't capable of inflicting damage at a level so above and beyond other strikers that sneak attack requires further restriction to stop...

    Online character builder / printing

If you don't have access to a full version of Acrobat (the Acrobat Printer makes some nice, small images, and you have the option to "Reduce File Size" to shrink the image even further), I recommend BullZip. Works similarly to CutePDF and PrimoPDF, but has produced superior images with a...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

Sure am. Here -- I'll give Quarry to the Rogue, too. He can spend a minor action and point at the nearest enemy. I don't particularly care, in a DPR discussion, how situationally challenging Combat Advantage may be to get. Unless you can put a hard number to it, you either grant it or deny...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

That would be my DPR spreadsheet. Which, as you've just pointed out, seems to have a bug -- it's adding 5% to the miss chance. I'll get that ironed out. I'm not willing to grant the Rogue combat advantage "just because" without also giving it to the Ranger. Stealth, ally abilities, powers...

    OMG... you aren't *HUMAN*!!!

What do you consider the only two good at-wills for a shielding swordmage? In play, I tend to fire off Swordburst about half the time, with the other half split between Booming Blade and Lightning Lure. Forced movement on demand = handy. The one time I played a non-human swordmage I just...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

"Biased" is an ugly word. "Lazy" is more accurate. Fine. It's a slow day. Let's factor in DPR. My apologies to those that hate the math stuff. Characters are second level with a 20 in the primary stat and a post-racial 16 in whatever secondary stat. They are assumed to have combat...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

It's a spike damage analysis, not a DPR analysis. Yes, DPR is generally a more useful metric, but it's the spike damage that triggers the sort of reaction that would prompt a DM to consider banning or seriously nerfing a striker's entire damage mechanic. The ranger is using a magic bow and has...

    Dwarf Warden 2nd Winds

Thankfully that power doesn't reference Second Wind in any way - it simply allows a character to use a healing surge once per day as a minor action. It won't trigger any of the feats / powers / class features tied to Second Wind.

Think of it like ice cream. Baskin-Robbins may stock vanilla (the most singularly popular flavor), but there are 30 more "exotic" flavors there to tempt customers. It's inevitable that people are going to try those other flavors. They've tried vanilla. Next time they're going to try rocky road.

He's level two. There's only so much optimization that can be in place at level two. :)

That's one hell of a sand trap.

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

Absolutely. Expected Damage Per Round (which factors in to-hit chance) gives a more "whole" picture. But DMs rarely balk at really good average damage -- it's the spikes that make people start wondering if something is overpowered.

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

As others have said, Sneak Attack is how Rogues deal striker damage. Removing that capability against entire classes of enemies really means the DM is actively screwing your character when those critters get used. I don't think your DM is out to get you - I suspect he's balking at the damage...

Need Guidance on running a large group

Just one word of warning - under no circumstances should you use a Solo as a lone opponent against an oversized party. It's a bad idea to use a truly solo Solo against any group, but there are circumstances where it can work. These circumstances vanish as the party gets larger. There are just...
