If it weren't for kids... (your cute kid stories)

Man that would have made me shoot milk from my nose! My daughter does stuff like this too. I love this age. Here's Isabel's version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star: Tinkle, tinkle star! Whatchu are! Up up up up up! Diamond sky!

    Best Resolution System?

Its just my opinion, but I always thought this (and, worse, the system from Earthdawn) was kind of gimmicky. It felt like the designers dumped out their dice bag and thought, "ok how can I use all these dice". Which, come to think of it, is kind of what AD&D did. I feel the same way about the...

    Interesting Class + Monster Combos...

I'm going to have medusa ranger/rogues in my next adventure. Maybe a green hag druid. Definitely some lizardfolk druids.

    Best Resolution System?

What do people think about the difference of linear vs. normal distributions in resolution systems? I used to think linear was the best because it was the easiest to figure out what your actual chance of success is (the most obvious of these being the d% roll). But lately, after playing higher...

    Most mispronounced monster names

Dragon. My players seem to pronounce it a million different ways: Ahhhhsheeeeeeeeeit! Weirskrood! Faaaaaaaahhhhhk! Ruhnnaweigh! Crapponnastik! &c.

If it weren't for kids... (your cute kid stories)

My two year old gets jealous when my buddies come over for our Thursday night game, eat dinner, and then head down into the basement to play. When her mom told here we were playing a game, she asked me later, "Play game, Daddy?" So I gathered up a bunch of dice, plastic D&D minis, and some...

    The Agony of No-shows

I treat my game like any other social event--the only difference being that we play every week on Thursday night. There's only four of us, so one no-show can kill a session. But we are all good friends. Gaming is just an excuse to get together. We don't penalize someone for not showing up, even...

Monsters that turn out very fun.

Lots of low-level humanoids led by one big bad tough guy or spell caster (or both). I like lizardfolk because our ranger has them as a favored enemy. My players love these encounters. They get to show off their power (area effect spells, multiple attacks, etc) while the villain taunts & buffs...

    D&D and AD&D - 10 Players?

Many of the oldest modules were themed more as expeditions (think Louis & Clark) than action movies. This probably comes from D&D's heritage--wargames. The RPG forefathers probably went from scores of units down to about a dozen or so. Later, more emphasis was put on story and individual PCs...

Where can I find full dragon stats?

Seriously. I use a lot of old Dungeon adventures from 3.0. Every time I read one I glance over the differences. Here's the latest one: 3.0 Githyanki have the following at will spell like abilities: clair*, dimension door, and telekinesis. Pretty cool, eh? In 3.5 they get dimension door and...

Why I refuse to support my FLGS

I'm one of those long in the tooth (heheh 32) to remember the days before Blockbuster. But you are forgetting about Neflix. Waaay cheaper than those old Mom & Pop stores (where IIRC you had to sign a contract to rent) with waaaay more titles to select from. And Netflix is eating Blockbuster's lunch.

    Other classic Scifi remakes

I think Hollywood should stop doing remakes of old movies. As a stupid, red-state midwesterner my brain hurts from their complicated plots. They should remake recent remakes. That way, I already know the plot from seeing the movie 2 or 3 times before. They should definitely strip out any big...

Why I refuse to support my FLGS

This kills me. I suffer tons of guilt everytime I buy my game books on Amazon.com. Well not tons, the profit from a sale of Amazon stock paid for my mortgage down payment. But still, I'd like to keep my local gaming store in business. But my hobby allowance is limited. For every $10 bucks I...

D&D combats really don't have to take a long time to resolve

Another thing to do to speed things up is make the players write out all those spell effects they have on them on index cards in front of them. Before we did this, we had problems with our ranger: 6 attacks two different weapons (+2 longsword, +1 keen longsword) bull's strength'd enlarged Now...

Where can I find full dragon stats?

Thanks folks, I'll check out the Draconomicon next time I hit my game store. That stat block PDF sounds really useful--I try to print out stats for all major creatures for a given session so I can leave my MM on the shelf (or hand it to a summoning PC). After looking at the stats that dragon...

Where can I find full dragon stats?

This is probably a common question, but does anyone have a good place to get full dragon stats (3.5 SRD)? Something like a generator or spreadsheet or something? Google located a really good one (http://mwtools.thyle.net/d_gen.html) but its for 3.0 stats.

What sounds can you make with Ghost Sound?

Cajole your DM into giving you a +2 circumstance bonus to Intimidate checks when backing up your threats with the sound of thunder! Bolster your bard's performance with the sounds of applause or laughter! Impede enemy orations with derisive boo's and hisses! Simple distractions could be...

Anyone tried Halo with D20 Future?

I kind of have to agree--I don't really like the autofire rules in d20 either. But I can see why they did it the way they did. Its very hard to write rules that are, at the same time, fun, semi-realistic and easy to resolve. I have to admit: I haven't actually used them in play yet. So I'll...

Anyone tried Halo with D20 Future?

I made a few stats for a campaign based on Halo after playing the first game. I haven't had a chance to run it so I can't say how they work out in a game. I used D20 Future as a foundation. See stuff here: http://chrischalfant.blogspot.com/2005/01/groundpounders-mini-campaign.html...
