    Aligned Magic Weapon

only if he is a non-native outsider (3/4 kidding)

Isn't there a chart for Knowledge Checks?

Hmmm, the autopsy thing and special abilities. You'd have to decide if the creature has some special organs or if it is just channeling some magical energy.

Should i Help my self or my Allies?

I don't recall if it is a 'real' rule, but I allow characters to change out 1 known spell when they gain a new caster level. The spell has to be of lower level than the character's new top level spell. For instance, a 3rd level sorcerer has mage armor but finds it isn't the most effective...

    Deliberate balancing factor or coincidence?

I like the affinities (I=DM), but you have to be flexible with them. Is +2 con physical improvement or protection- yes to both in my book. If my players can make a decent argument, then sure. The affinities rule gives me extra leverage in the "does it not sound stupid?" rule. "Don't you love...

    Aligned Magic Weapon

thanks kahuna. and i'm still laughing about the pony pic. this pony = NOT yours, NO! the good aligned creature bit doesn't work for these lads, for while they are half celestials, they are 'native' outsiders and so don't get it automatically. (though i can't wait for one of them to read...

    Aligned Magic Weapon

ha ha, nice! but seriously, lots of evil nasties have dr x/good. so only a holy weapon or something like sunblade overcomes this? or do we just have to go (12000+base magic weapon cost)x.7 that is- adding align weapon then knocking 30 percent off the thing for it being alignment restricted?

    Aligned Magic Weapon

nope. i don't want 'holy' with the +2d6 holy damage. just want a 'good' sword that doesn't do any extra damage.

    Aligned Magic Weapon

So what is the cost of adding an alignment to a magic weapon?

Rules for Creating Character higher than 1st Level

starting magic items: as li (i think) pointed out, 3.0 had the example of limiting a character with 27,000 to 5,000 per item. from this, we decided that an item can cost up to 1/5th of the character's starting wealth. we carried this forward into 3.5. so the new 11th level characters in my...

    half-celestials

    1) For level advancement. 2) I need to know the party level for planning encounters. 3) To award appropriate experience points after said encounters.

    Gelatinous cube tpk

slightly longer version of the story First: How does a 10' cube fit in a 5' wide corridor? It is an ooze and: "An ooze is an amorphous or mutable creature" so I said it was twice as long and half as wide. Second: "Although it moves slowly, a gelatinous cube can simply mow down Large or...

How much would a ring of undetectable alignment cost?

rings do seem to be extra tricky, and i wish there were better guidelines for cost. the dmg even says that ring costs are difficult to formularize. as i read the chart, there is no dividing the cost by two for continuous items, but frank does correctly state that there is no slot affinity...

Question on holy and unholy damage

true that it doesn't say "it deals an extra 2d6 of holy damage", as it does in other descriptions, but the effect is called holy. also, it explicitly says the damage is "against all of evil alignment". to me, this is enough to say that "holy" damage only damages evil. and i'm not being...

    half-celestials

thanks all for the replies. @I2000 - what you say is true but here is more of what was on my mind- i don't want them flying all over the place mainly in 'campaign mode'. there are all sorts of things i want them to meet that they would flat out miss if they flew everywhere. but then i was...

    half-celestials

thanks for the tip. savage species is 3.0 though, yeah? it is a good base to look at. one reason the players want half celestial is for the attribute mods, so knocking off the 4th level would make them sad. and it looks like ONLY getting rid of the wings and lowering the ecl would be giving...

    half-celestials

my players are starting a new party after a tpk and i'm letting them play half-celestials as it fits perfectly with what is going on in the game world. but half-celestials all have wings in 3.5 and i don't want to allow that- it would change too much of the game dynamic if they can fly...

    Gelatinous cube tpk

good points. trying to calculate the blast through of the fireball would have been a nightmare! we figured the characters were not in contact with the ground, since they were being pulled along inside the cube. i would argue this was absolutely true for the 3 that also were paralyzed. i...

Spell Save DC Based on Character Level

We used 10 + spell level + attribute modifier + 1/2 caster level for a while but then I dropped it. Why? Because it was working too much in my, the dm's, favor. My baddest baddies tend to be spell casters with high primary attributes, and so with ok base dcs already. Adding half character...

    Eliminating charisma

In my game charisma covers luck. Game use example- character wants to buy a specific uncommon item, or find a shop that just happens to be open late today, etc; all that gets resolved with a charisma check.

    Gelatinous cube tpk

The party of 4 (party level 7) is heading down a 5 foot wide tunnel when the lead character spots something odd just ahead (windy tunnel). It looks as if the air is solid ahead and there are some stone objects and gems floating in the air. To make a long story short, all 4 characters end up...
