    Generating random names

Haha. I'm an idiot. For clarity, the "don't change anything unless [you're] confident" was referring to the formulas in cells. They get complex pretty quick and if you go fiddling it is hard to undo. You absolutely should change the cells containing the elements that makeup a name and play...

    Let's write some riddles!

That's really good (and I'd certainly give it credit) but it wasn't what I had in mind. I'll post my answer tomorrow if no one gets it. Here is another original creation that I'm not as happy with and probably a bit easier. ------------- Born in a flash to single applause Life is a dash, a race...

Nope. When you get it you'll have no doubt that you are correct.

    Let's write some riddles!

An original creation (as far as I know). --------------------- With armor born of a suit so old I watch over a treasure of gold Ever outnumbered, I shall not yield And vigilantly tend the battlefield

    Generating random names

Thanks for the reply. NPC names is where I initially planned to take it but I figured I'd start with cities first because they follow more basic patterns. I've attached what I have so far for NPC name generation. It provides good starting points for names but most need a little polishing.

Weapon training provides power instead of access

For a crit the max damage component isn't rolled so it wouldn't trigger exploding. I'm not seeing how you got to 30%, could you walk me through it? Unless your characters are routinely only doing 1-2 damage I think there might have been a decimal misplaced or something.

Weapon training provides power instead of access

The math isn't hard to calculate it is just hard to format into a table that one can easily post. The table is per die, so a 2[w] is just 2x. On a d8 longsword, exploding on a 2[w] power is 0.56 or 0.33 over a high crit power. So if you attack each round of a 4 round combat and let's even give...

Weapon training provides power instead of access

I ran some quick math on High Crit, Brutal 1, and Exploding damage dice. The following limitations are assumed for simplicity: Hit rate of 50% Exploding dice only explode once No multi-[w] Damage is per attack attempted (whether or not it hits) The expected incremental damage by die is as...

    Decoupling actions and skills

Nothing about my proposal discourages what you are good at from having an impact on your decision-making process. In fact, it broadens the potential for what you are good at to impact the decision making process.

    Mapping in PowerPoint

Do you have any copies around? I'd like to get inspiration if possible and am more than happy to have some fun before I, too, decide it is too unwieldy.

    Generating random names

Could I entice people to check it out if I said it used cool formulas like (this is one cell)... =IF(B9=1,VLOOKUP(INT(RAND()*$D$22+1),$B$23:$K$42,3)&"...

    Decoupling actions and skills

I’ve been considering a modification to 4e skills to make them more generally applicable to a range of actions. My goal is to encourage players to take actions that make sense instead of focusing on actions predominantly because of their chance to succeed. By actions here, I am referring to any...

    Using meta-game information as a story-telling tool

It feels like a variant of the "last night you all dream..." method of narrating information. I don't see any issue with either method but I'd make sure that the cut-scenes have more to them than just reporting off camera events. For example, maybe as a cut scene concludes the Superior tells the...

D&D T-Shirt Giveaway - done and over with a winner

Your shirts look great. Best of luck with the store (and to me with your die rolling).

    Mapping in PowerPoint

Updated the original document to explain hills as well. As always google documents butchers the formatting so you'll have to download the original. (Does anyone know why this is or a way I can make it immediately go to download instead of trying to render in the browser? Thanks.)

    Mapping in PowerPoint

I think there is definitely value in it because it brings mapping to more familiar software for the non-hard core mappers who don't have the time or money to learn more professional software. Whether that means slowly building that value by a lot of folks adding one idea or someone working...

Weapon training provides power instead of access

Grr. The system was created for an alt-4e system I am making but I tried to change most of it back to 4e centric rules. Some of it slipped through because I'm too accustomed to the change like Lethal (high crit) and Duelist (should benefit AC as well). I wouldn't look at it as giving untrained...

What's the big deal with "feat taxes?"

I would take a broader view of feat taxes. Most arguments seem to include some idea of "keeping up with the math" but whether you are keeping up or pulling ahead, the effect is that the feat resource is consistently funneled into the same handful of feats. So anytime a feat (or any power...

Help Brainstorm Magical Guns and Ammo

Looks like I'm going to be the lone dissenter, but I'd want firearms to *not* be crazy different. They should have a feel and they should be unique and they should be worth using, but, after that, I sort of just want them to be another weapon. I would, however, be excited for ammunition that...
