    D&D 4E The 4e Economy

A points-of-light default setting is going to have a real crap economy, since trade in such a scenario is hardly going to exist. Some goods are going to be barely available if the settlement doesn't have access to iron, for example. You'll wind up having economies that are generated by...

Making "level" king again in 3.x

The one seems to be a (much) smaller task than the other, honestly.

    Balancing E6

damage balance Would it be easier to come up with a nerf for THF than 20 different bonuses for everyone else just so they can keep up?

D&D 4E Does anyone agree with me about 4E?

Your opinion is false and reveals your fanboy nature, or possibly your aura of consumer entitlement! I am full of contempt that I will strive mightily to form into a mask of passive-aggressiveness, that I may continue to post on this here board. Now I shall pore over the next bit of minutiae I...

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

I resubmit my suggestion, "Reaping Blade."

Making "level" king again in 3.x

On my to-do list for a good long while has been making an affiliations-based training system that can be used to shunt gold into training-based bonuses that'll replace the item-christmas-tree stat buffers. "You have completed the Trial of the Web of Blades, you gain a +1 training bonus to...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Also, re: gold, what is it good for, I've long had the temptation to draft a "he who dies with the most toys, wins" retirement system that determines how well the adventurer's going to be living once his sword-slinging days are over. I am also okay with purchasing an assortment of limited-use...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Those overdraft fees must be murder.

    HD Gone?

It's easy enough to add variations to a monster's hit points ad-hoc, which is what I'd be doing under such a scheme, and what I usually do in 3e starting from the average hp figure anyway. I can see why this change would get under people's skin, but it wouldn't functionally affect me much...

Warlocks or Psions. Which matters more to you?

The 4e warlock looks better, so I voted for it, but I like having alternate vectors for freakiness so I want psionics to show up at some point. FWIW in my 3e setting psionics is one of those mysterious NPC-only abilities while warlocks don't even work on the prime material plane.

I just realized what bugs me about Warlords . . .

And champions can be pricks too: Achilles! It's flexible that way. But the thing about Captain and Commander and Centurion (otherwise a great name) is that those all imply rank – the Warlord problem writ small. I do agree that Champion isn't really perfectly aligned with the "leader of men"...

What's the top level in your campaign world?

Well, I'm retooling it, but I kicked the action offplane at level 12-14. As in, had a cabal of powerful NPCs chase adventurers off the prime plane at that level. Or persuade them to retire. Or "persuade" them to "retire."

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

Okay, if I were to have this move in my game, at first level, I'd call it "Reaping Blade" and flavor it as a clinch move where the fighter closes to infighting distance, applies a very fast draw-cut or short chop to the back of the knee, and follows it up with a proper sweep on the wounded leg...

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

You know, I never really have made a full instinctive distinction between Combat Expertise and Combat Reflexes after all this time even though they are very very different feats. They've always seemed kinda interchangeable and I always have to look twice. * data point *

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

Monkey Steals The Peach! Hmm, I dunno, I'm not real real big on martial arts simulation, but it's not the name of this that bugs me so much as how you're supposed to do this with – what – a sword? An axe, I guess? I swear, I'm not a real stickler about this kind of stuff, but the 1st-level...

"Champion". (Also jumps the gun a bit, but it's certainly possible to have failed or untried champions) Or, riffing off the AD&D references: "Fight-User." :D

Oh, I'm not remotely surprised. But I am advocating this as a standard! Who's with me?

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

I'm with IceFractal: The d4 can die die die but keep your little grubby paws far away from the beautiful, easy-rolling d12. As a matter of fact here's a vote for replacing all d4s with re-marked d12s. That's right, say it with me if you know the words: the d12 should kill the d4 and take its...

Traps up to level 30 ?

It's a trap with a divination effect that tells it what adventurers are planning to enter the dungeon. It then scries them and plane-shifts them into the Negative Material Plane the Elemental Chaos or whatever it's called before they finish packing their backpacks.
