I just realized what bugs me about Warlords . . .

On level and experience and the implication of names, wasn't a 1st level fighter in 1E AD&D a veteran?

    Gleemax Alpha is Live

All well and good, but don't feel that you're restricted to WotC/Hasbro; when setting up your profile, the games you play section already has titles from Green Ronin, Fantasy Flight Games, and other companies.

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

Any discount if I plan to wear it ironically?

ToWotC: Make staff blogs easier to find on Gleemax!

Solice has already posted that she plans to do this before alpha is over.

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I would love a "Scott Rouse Must Be Stopped" t shirt.

    So...did Dragon wow you?

I've used Death Knights in the past. I will use Death Knights in the future. A kraken might play a very small part in one of my games, but not enough that it matters outside the encounter. So, the Kraken article fails the usefulness test. Also, I found the Death Knight ecology fairly...

    So...did Dragon wow you?

Then we're cool. It's just I've seen a lot of opinions put forth like they were facts. If you don't like something, fine, but when someone starts saying something I like is empirically bad, I start getting defensive. Although this, Even with the smiley comes across as insulting.

    So...did Dragon wow you?

Huh. The best 3rd edition stuff I've been buying has mostly been produced by WotC. And I found the Ecology of the Death Knight more interesting than the last few ecologies put out under Paizo. Looks to me like Wizards gets it just fine.

D&D 4E Is liking 4E biased by how many books you own?

I own over 40 3.5 books, every issue of Dragon since 250, and the last three years of Dungeon. Based on everything I've read or heard about 4E, I will be switching to that next year.

My sincere admiration. It's not often I have to choke back a laugh at work. Well done.

    D&D 3.x 1996 3E Survey

I remember hearing that too. Originally, 3E was going to look a lot like 2E. When WotC took over, they tossed that and set to work on something new.

    Staff Use Question

Anyone can use a staff, provided the spell they're trying to use is on their spell list (knowledge of the spell is not necessary, nor is have casting ability; cure light wounds is on the paladin spell list, so even a first level paladin could cast CLW from a staff).

    Design and Development: Cosmology

Yes. The Great Wheel is gone, but there's room to fit just about any part of the old planes into this. I'm digging it.

    Chris Thomasson playtest (Sep-26)

As for rangers using bows in 4E, they do seem the most sensible class. The fighter's role is defender, which pretty much requires melee fighting. I'm sure there will be opportunities for the fighter to use ranged weapons, but most of the time he'll be melee. So who will use a bow in most 4E...

    Chris Thomasson playtest (Sep-26)

Buh? Under Unearthed Arcana was required to take proficiency in a number of melee weapons (sword, dagger, spear or axe iirc). With no armor restrictions, great damage bonuses against humanoids, and greater HP averages than the fighter through the early levels, the ranger was an excellent melee...

    D&D 4E Who's going to dump WoW for 4E?

It is something I've considered; move the money I pay for WoW each month over to pay for D&D I. But, so far I've found I have time and money for D&D and WoW.

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Context is key. Dave was writing about the start of playtesting for his group, almost four months ago. By now, I imagine they've sped up NPC creation, as well as made plenty of mechanical and flavor changes.

How much of the old setting(s) in the new setting?

I've never been familiar with Tharizdun. I know there was an adventure about him, and I've seen the name in a few source books, but I don't recall him getting a column of text in the Greyhawk box set. I know he's tied to that setting, but to me he's as generic and transplantable as Bigby or...

As promised a review of Bendy Dungeon Walls Terrain

The main problem I've had in use is trying to position the walls with one hand while holding the book with map in the other. They take a bit more work than marker on mat, but I'm liking the effect so far.

D&D 3.x Have the designers of 3e said anything about 4e?

Taking a look at the credits page for my 3.0 PHB, Richard Baker is listed as Additional Design, David Noonan is one of three names under Editorial Assistance. Bill Slavicsek is Director of RPG R&D. At the bottom, under Other WotC RPG R&D Contributors, we see names like Andy Collins, Bruce...
