Not necessarily, no. But it’s quite often the result. And that result is known to be a thing. And it’s not seen by many optimizers as a deterrent, leading to the practice being even more off putting to most non-optimizers. You’ll need to explain the jargon.

CharOp is spotlight hogging in the sense of utterly overshadowing the rest of the group while you have the spotlight. Yes, it absolutely can be fun to build weird PCs and see if you can break the game. What’s absolutely not cool is trying to bring those characters to the table.
