Is World of Warcraft creating a desire for more role-playing in D&D?

Pretty much everyone in my playing circle does or did play WoW/EVE some sort of MMORPG, and it had zero impact on their playing habits. People who enjoyed the roleplaying side of things are still roleplayers, and the tactical folk are still primarily tactical. Their WOW experience was shaped...

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

Driddle, while I understand your hostility to Majoru, could you please respond to what I think is a good point, which is that a great many monsters are faster than the 20ft movement that constrains at least one member of most parties, and many are faster than 30 ft? Additionally, please stop...

How does striking an opponent heal your allies?

It could be a surface wound that didn't do much tissue damage but did inject the poison. Easy.

    Talent Trees

Taking Star Wars as an example, I don't think there's going to be more than three or four talent trees per class, with prestige classes and multiclassing being used to give access to more options.

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

You've either got to scale fighters up from what they can do in the real world, or scale wizards and their ilk down from what they can do in fantasy, or some combination thereof in order to maintain balance in combat. I'd rather keep the flashy important magic and give up some of the realism...

The best way to do Death Effects?

I'd replace them with a drop to -8 hp myself. This allows for more character continuity while turning a death spell into a tactical conundrum that needs to be dealt with. I'd still use them sparingly, since I dislike characters being reduced to inanimate options during table time, but I'd...

    D&D is Unfun [humorous troll]

For something to be a joke, doesn't it have to be something other than a repeat of an existing argument?

D&D and World of Warcraft (Not a Rant)

What is, willful ignorance of the thread topic Alex?

    Alignment and Party Dynamics

Detectable alignment, which includes an alignment which functions as a spell trigger, is a horrible hindrance to a great many plot points, and it leads to situations where people feel like others are playing their character "wrong" even if that characterization is internally consistent. More a...

    Design & Development: The Warlock

I don't see any problem with non-evil infernal warlocks, and warlocks would easily fit into any of my games as PCs. As long as the mechanics are solid, I see nothing to complain about.

    Design & Development: The Warlock

Groups that want to pick on D&D don't need a good reason, because they're perfectly willing to make some up. I don't think they should be taken into account when making decisions.

    Dragon's Tail Cut?

Yawn. I understand why so many of the arguments about 4e are important. The base system produces a metagame, and its' direction effects all of us in some small way. But the naming conventions are not on that list. If the mechanics are solid, I don't care what they name them, frankly.

Keep your filthy points of light away from me!

But he's not using his artistic license. If he knew the canon, he'd cleave to it, but there's so much of it he can't learn it in any reasonable time. This is a shared DM/PC problem, as I see it, with it's roots in the unreasonable size of existing FR canon.

    Wire Fu Demonic Magical Superheroes

This does not answer my question. Whatever you're fixated with, whatever you consider D&D, has already clearly been done. So why do you care what happens now? You've already got what you want. Meanwhile, there's a lot of us who want new stuff. Why shell out ninety buck minimum for the same...

    Wire Fu Demonic Magical Superheroes

Hey Reynard, I've got a question. Since you've already got your ideal version of D&D, why do you want to deny something new and interesting to the rest of us?

    Wire Fu Demonic Magical Superheroes

I play D&D. I want the new version because I want to increase the depth of tactical combat with more tactical options. I want it because it improves the weak points that trip up my game again and again. I want it because it moves the system closer to the feel I want. Exalted is not tactical...

D&D 4E Are there still going to be Alignment requirements for core classes in 4E?

I have to disagree with MoogleEmpMog and CleverNickName. I want them all gone. I don't see why I should be any happier about some asinine restriction when it cuts me off from a talent tree rather than a class. People's views on things don't have anything to do with their personal capacities...

Vancian Caster Alternative in future sourcebook?

I would presume that 3e Vancian casting was removed because it made encounters dependent on previous encounters in such a dramatic way. I don't think that this problem can be corrected in any other way than what they did, i.e. dramatically lower the amount of per day abilities in the system...

    A thought on "trees"...

I presume that it will be more simplistic that this, with three specialization trees. A generalist will just be someone who's split their talent points more or less evenly amongst the trees, while a specialist will pour all their talents in one tree to get the nice high tier stuff.
