Did Gygax owe a bit of thanks to WotC?

Just providing feedback on your OP. I'm sorry you took offense. It's just that it seems there's an actual point to your argument, and I was asking you about it. I would appreciate an answer, if you have one: were you trying to get at something you didn't directly mention in your OP? Was there a...

Did Gygax owe a bit of thanks to WotC?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at with your OP, though. It seems that there is a point to it, but it remains absent, like you're trying to "prove" or "get at" something by saying that EGG should be thankful towards WotC and today's D&D. So... what is your point, if any?

    Help me understand OSRIC

OSRIC was intended as a refence for people wishing to publish First Ed material, providing a cleaned-up version of the rules elements one could use under the OGL to publish a First Ed module/supplement. It's really cool that it took on such a life of its own, isn't it? :)

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

This is a good point, Twowolves. The same way, reading the Caryatid Column entry from the Bonus Bestiary, the "broken" quality applied to a sundered weapon is actually something that can make sense in-world. It'd be like Narsil in the LOTR that is reforged to later become Anduril. Really, I'm...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

For the record, I'm not trying to have a big argument about this whole thing, but since James is around and reading here, I just thought I might as well share my concerns. If not for the final version of the PF RPG, since it's already at the printer, maybe for future consideration and design...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

So as a designer, you either lay out in which circumstances the CR applies for a monster such as the rust monster or allip, OR you modify the CR itself to reflect its lethality more accurately. Gimping the monster is not the only option available. Besides of which, "defeating" doesn't...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

I'm with Windjammer on this. If people have so many issues with the Allip or Rust Monster, no one stops them from selecting other monsters to build their adventure with. Another possibility would be to make a "touch of insanity" and "temporary" sunderings OPTIONS for the DM to use, or not, as...

    Do you consider 2nd edition AD&D "old-school"

While we certainly could engage in laundry lists of what would qualify as "old" or "new school", we will ultimately arrive to the conclusion that these terms' definitions are not set in stone and fluctuate constantly from debate to debate, and debator to debator. Which is true. I guess I just...

    Help me understand OSRIC

LOL that's funny. Despite having a complete AD&D collection, I couldn't resist and ordered the OSRIC hardcover a couple of weeks ago from Lulu. I'm waiting for it now. :) As for OSRIC's goal/destination, it was really to have a First Edition reference document to use as a base to publish...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Chronicles setting: what does it offer?

I really like Golarion's flavor, as a generic setting where pretty much anything may go, depending on the area you choose as your campaign base. The background is interesting, but here's the issue to me: I would run Pathfinder using the setting book, maybe a tidbit from this or that...

    I love AD&D

Agreed. It's a very satisfying experience when you finally make it through!

    I love AD&D

Yes. The DMG isn't just a rules book. It is also a discourse, or rather, a conversation from one DM to another. It's a coaching guide. It's a toolbox full of fascinating references, and hooks to build a healthy DM culture, and leaves you wanting more, pushing to research well outside the sphere...

    I love AD&D

Yup. AD&D is decidedly alive and well. :)

    Testing the ENworld censorship filter.

Hardly surprising. If a filter is needed, this means a sizeable percentage of the readership is deemed irresponsible, and thus immature, by the moderation, since the responsibility of choosing their words on their own is taken away from them. A worthier educational expectation would be for...
