4e most certainly is like a video game. A limited number of classes and powers and monsters that are the same except for being tougher with different names immediately jump out at me. It reminds me of Diablo II, which was a great CRPG but not a P&P RPG. Your argument that 3e is like a video game...

I agree that the con penalty does not fit and that they need a cha bonus but the other bonuses are too much, IMO. They just reinforce the "elves are bestest" cliche.

I believe the poster wants 3.x elves to be given perks to justify a LA.

Right. Despite what some players think, the DM is free to exclude certain spells if they wreck his game or otherwise do not fit. He can also raise (or lower) the level of spells.

Wizards are of little use to me (I prefer sorcerers) but I think pruning spells from the wizard list is a viable option in 3e for those who want to keep wizards.

That's not a problem with the 3e "magic system." It is a problem with one class that makes use of the system.

Right. Also, people who felt overwhelmed by options in 3.x could always play a sorcerer. (You wouldn't know the class existed from the comments in this thread and those like it.)
