Have These Basic Questions been answered yet?

Raises hand. (Although we play maximum at levels 1-3, then roll after that.) Oh, I think many things suck worse than that. Again, this is what we do. When we aren't using roll best 3 of 4d6 and assign. They shouldn't inflate the standard attributes too much. Those that like higher stats...

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

I wasn't answering whether or not it is D&D, but whether or not is it "better D&D" or more specifically how one could think it isn't "better D&D" in light of playtester comments to the contrary. Basically, "better D&D" is an individual response, and thus highly subjective.

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

I'm not the original poster, but why can't that be the fundamental difference. One guy likes one thing, one guy likes many different things.

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

By the comments on this board, it is clear that D&D means something different to different people. So how do we know how the playtesters define D&D? The rules might be better, but I think it is the flavor that is off. And flavor is highly subjective. That, and the corporate-shill thing. :)

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

Or I can just ignore 4e. Certainly easier on my pocket book than buying a game to ignore a third of the races and classes. Camp-two ("everything that's available") players don't work well with camp-one (traditional humanoid races) DMs, and vice versa. I've played in some games with demon...

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

I'm in total agreement with the original poster. D&D seems to have two camps: those that think it should be about a few, traditional humanoid races; and those that embrace everything that the game has to offer. I'm in camp one. 4E seems to have embraced camp two from the beginning. I wonder...

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

If it is too soon to post negative comments because those areas might be changed, then is it too soon to post positive comments because those areas might be changed. I think the posters should have been upfront by saying they were posting under the understanding that they could only post...

    History repeats itself

As I recall, the transition from 2E to 3E included a lot of mechanical complaints. In particular, I remember people hating the new multiclass system because they couldn't play an elf wizard 11/fighter 11 (in 2E this was about a 13th level character, but would be 22nd in 3E). I don't recall so...

    Why are you still here?

All those things. Also, I those disappointed in the changes just drop out and shut up, nothing will ever improve for them.

    Half Sold

That implies that the other players wouldn't enjoy the character. A heroic character that only complains about a desire to do evil would be a great addition to the games I've been in. Far more disruptive would be a dark character that constantly goes against a heroic party's desires. I've...

    Half Sold

I didn't derail my own thread, I apparently killed it. Back to the tiefling char concept, I was thinking of the character as being more ironic: She thinks she needs to be evil, but she really isn't, so she is quite vocal about her desire to do evil and the internal struggle generated by that...

Worlds & Monsters: humans are boring??

I stumbled over this too. It is so amazingly stupid of a statement that I didn't bother to read the rest of the previews. Perhaps some day when my mind has cleared from the induced numbness, I'll finish reading the previews.

    D&D 4E 4E Haters Lonely?

In before the lock. I'm not a 4E lover, so apparently I'm a sad individual.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Hey, not bad. One of the first previews of 4e that doesn't suck. It doesn't really sound like the pit fiends I'm used to, but if you file off the serial number (or just don't care) it could make for a neat encounter. But the damage does seem a bit low in all areas. 26rd level characters are...

    Sage Advice - multiclassing

How do you typeset, layout, and edit something that hasn't be written yet? I think it would be especially hard to do the layout if you don't know what the rules are going to be: how long are they? Actually, typesetting and editing would be impossible without the actual text of the actual rules.

    Half Sold

Yeah, I definitely think an answer to that will derail the thread. But I'll give it a try. I run core-only games: PHB, DMG, MM and no supplements. (I have my reasoning, but it isn't germane to this thread.) The current 4E offering is missing too much of what I consider D&D for that to be...

    Half Sold

I figured out what I don't like about 4E: It doesn't appear to fit my DM style. But once I realized that I realized I could play in a 4E game, just never run one. I have a friend that is full-on in love with 4E, so he will most definitely run a game. With the game apparently so easy to run, I...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Every time I read another 4E article, my hopes die a little more. For all the things they are changing, the couldn't see themselves to change the system enough so an 11th level character didn't walk around with 9 magic items. Sigh. At least if he were 10th level, he wouldn't be able to have...
