Eberron Campaign: Shackled City or Forgotten Forge (Which should I run?)

Shackled City is the adventure path set of scenarios in Dungeon magazine. They're just about wrapping up. So far my approach will be a bit of cherry picking from the official Eberron scenarios then leading into running Malhavoc's Banewarrens, set in Sharn. I thought it'd be cool if the spire...

D20 Future (SRD) what's (not so) good and what can be improved (and how)?

One thing I was surprised to see was that many of the Menace Manual critters and large parts of Urban Arcana are in the SRD as well. I take it this happened a while ago and I just missed the release. At any rate, I look forward to seeing where you, RPGObjects, and other companies take the material.

    Conspiracy X ... d20?

I think the publisher (Eden) is releasing a new edition using Unisystem, the same rules underlying the Buffy RPG. That should be easier to handle and might port fairly easily to d20. It would be very cool to have a full-on d20 version though.

Oh no! The DM has [BLANK]! Or: What strikes fear into the hearts of players?

Crothian's answer sounds good to me! For my group it was always miniatures. I had this werebear, weretiger, and snakeman miniature that I'd only pull out for my really cool -- i.e. bad news -- villains. Bookwise it'd be Call of Cthulhu, though I think I might get Chaositech added to that list...

Wishing Health to Bastion Press's Steve Creech

Best wishes, Steve. Hope you're feeling better soon and that they replaced the faulty, flesh gall bladder with an improved bionic one that allows you to eat endless quantities of KFC and convert the grease into all the major nutrients, thus eliminating any need to ever eat vegetables again.

3E and the Culture of Balance

Sammael's solution sounds good. This allows characters to do these sorts of cinematic things without having them become to commonplace or start to dominate the game. It also allows you to playtest a potential houserule before coming to a final decision on how such situations should be handled...

    ENWorld Advertising

While this would probably count as a Meta thread I figure it's of enough interest to publishers that it would be worthwhile to post it here. Some of the problems Morrus mentioned seems to arise from the nature of advertising here. While my experience is a bit out of date, when I did have books...

ENnies: Publisher feedback and suggestions sought on the future of the ENnies

While I'm sure the ENnies system could, somehow be improved, one thing I'm certain of is that the 5 elected judge system has produced the most consistently worthwhile sets of nominees in any game awards I've seen. Not only are all the nominees top-notch, but they're fresh and innovative. Awards...

    d20 Modern module

Combined with the "Blood and Guts" for $5 coupon in the latest Modern Dispatch, it was an offer I just couldn't refuse. Really good job on that book, Chuck. I look forward to seeing how d20 modern handles this kind of scenario.

Do you have a problem with the distribution of DND skill pionts?

I like the idea of trimming down the number of skills too. In addition to the advantages you mentioned it'd make it a lot easier to stat out an NPC and reduce the amount of scanning through the stat block I normally have to do.

ENnies: Publisher feedback and suggestions sought on the future of the ENnies

I would imagine that for everyone but WotC, being excluded from the ENnies would be a disadvantage. While an ENnie award might not help sales of the orginal book much they very well might help build company reputation so that customers try out their next product, and allow a publisher to...

    d20 Modern module

Just picked it up tonight and it looks rather cool--might be good thing to run while I work out the details on my Eberron campaign.

Does EN World need a change of focus?

Morrus, I want to point out that I'm very sympathetic to your concerns about feeling like a press release outlet (as I mention in The Big Thread , near the middle at post 286). However, as a fan and someone who happily owns far more d20 books than I'll ever need or use, I really value the press...

we're taking on the world's largest dungeon!

Yah, I'm jonseing for this too. The ability to have the rogue break into some random apartment and then me be able to look up the stats of the occupants and how many copper pieces they have hidden under their mattress (and, given the quality of WLD, probably a small story hook too) sounds very...

we're taking on the world's largest dungeon!

I have a feeling that's guaranteed :) I'll be interested to see how other publishers pursue this new market option. In some ways, what AEG did is like what Phil Reed (Ronin Arts) did with its micro-books--trailblaze a new market for RPG books. I can barely imagine what someone like WotC could...

we're taking on the world's largest dungeon!

I've heard him say it a few times--stop acting like a commodity and go for the premium product at the premium price. Given that I picked up the last one at my FLGS I suspect Dancey has a right to a few "I told ya so's". Anyway, I'm really pleased with the purchase. I don't think I'll be running...

Does EN World need a change of focus?

I use every aspect of this site: check the forums regularly, read reviews when I'm on the fence about a product or hearing good things about a book I hadn't considered before, and check in daily around midnight to see the news postings--news is fun for keeping me informed about what's coming out...

Good rant on the news page

One more thing. If WotC thinks that it should sweep the awards, they're arrogant, naive, and, frankly, stupid. Expensive graphics, writers, and shiny paper no more guarantee awards than $100 million dollar budgets guarantee a movie studio an Oscar sweep. Just look at Good Will Hunting or The...
