The game is not “hard” most of the time. Play what is interesting. Yes, I still use racial ASIs. Playing suboptimal (not ineffectual) and unexpected things makes the game more colorful.

I have my dungeon table marked in 1 inch squares…but when we move “outside” onto my foam terrain and grass mat, its my bendable ruler or similar. 1” per 5” has never been an Issue that way. And if it’s close the dice can decide a few millimeters if anyone would actually question.
