How to Delay or Avoid GM Burnout

Well this is a people thing in part and an expectation thing in part… My pals have largely the same wants in a game system. That helps. The others just want to see adventure and chaos. But I leaned a hard lesson a few years back. I DM’d a weekend super event! We had good food…many...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I was a little kid but loved those shows. Benny hill too. Don’t tell

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Everything has an upside. I like 5e but when I play it I care a lot less about treasure and magic items. No experience for treasure means we are not pushing to gain every last coin. Hell I will leave treasure for others at times because I don’t care. And there are so many abilities and so...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Some recent design choices seem pretty divorced from entertainment only decisions. But that said, I would not want to go back to descending AC. I admit it was foreign to me when we moved to 3e from 1e in 1999. But we adapted and don’t see a need to go back.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The lack of perspective sometimes astounds. The inability to keep things in perspective and with any sense of proportion can be stunning. I am not referring to anyone in particular but if the shoe fits…

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I use hero forge for fun. Then again I have also given gift cards for birthdays from them… In their case free playtime led to me spending over 100 bucks…

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I am grateful to Crawford, Mearls and Perkins for making a version of a game that has and continues to give a lot of joy! I am less worried about personal reasons or otherwise for departures and am more interested in how it will change the future. Sadly, it looks like 5.5 is locked in for a...

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I think you are right about freeloaders. And I would be interested to know what demographic is buying materials vs. responding to surveys saying they are players. Secondly, agree the company finds a way to make money on a brand or they stop producing product.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I volunteer many of my coworkers as prey for said dire wolves on said island. For science, of course. Are they aggressive toward humans? We need to know.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

I buy plenty of the prepainted D&D minis. My brother gets a lot of the prepainted ones. I assume they will be even more expensive too? Especially when I keep buying and have to hire a divorce attorney. Damn all of that was expensive enough already

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

Well it’s a matter of opinion but I have to agree. As I tinker and go buy foam today to improve My mountain boards, I know the wargamers are fewer and I am a bit skewed. But I do want a bit more wargame in the process of telling a story. As I play now occasionally with my kids, I find a mix...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

Well…I am trying to be logical about this. Unless you want to dismantle something entirely, I do think you want some continuity and length of experience in the mix. That said, there is a lot of talk in business and on online hobby enthusiast sites about the need for a diverse design team and...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

By this logic, 5e sold well because of all the youngsters on the design team? As a cold calculating businessman I could not disagree about capturing market share as a priority and hitting key demographics. But I am not sure about it being good for the game that he in particular is leaving.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

It is exhausting to listen intently to people that don’t like the new constantly tear it down. I however find it mind numbing when apologists can’t tolerate any dissent. Yes, that rule change or art direction is a real problem to me. Glad u don’t mind it. In the end I am true to myself but...

D&D General Do you transfer characters between campaigns?

I don’t know exactly how to say this. We do what we want. My groups are friends. We discuss what level and in the old days evil or good. Back as teens in 1e days which stretched all the way to 3e for us, we might say “let Me see that sheet” and say “uh, that’s a bit much” if they brought a...

    Will AI replace Dungeon Masters?

I want to design things and love minis and terrain. I play more than dm historically. But there are times we would like to play but no one has anything prepared. It would be really fun to have a one shot on the spot with AI and see if it’s just a night of fun or if it grows as a seed for...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

You forgot the first rule of white rooming. Leave out context and nuance ;) There is a lot of this an analyses. The ones that really kill me are the ones that expect you to ignore rules to make the observation true. Fireball is fine. It’s good. I select and prepare it most of the time if k...

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

I think this is right. I am using an electronic program for character generation and don’t think my kids know the bones underneath. I am going to transfer to paper sheets and walk them through it all…
