    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

It’s just my preference. Not a moral imperative. I will play 5e and perhaps a little dragonslayer…looking forward to my book…

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

For me, the tone of 5e was good at start but drifted a bit much both with regard to art as well as content. I skipped 2e, 3.5 and in large part 4e. I hate not being current in some respects but am not afraid to be an outlier if I must. I just can’t with 2024 D&D. It’s just not going to...

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

Apply the existing rules. Constant disadvantage for perception is a thing right? It would be worse if you are on unfamiliar ground. I know not to walk “back there” but an intruder does not. Also, what about a mixed party? If you walk ahead, alone to get the benefit of dark vision…cost...

So Much Art From the 2025 Monster Manual

I am good with updating things and fresh looks but you need to exercise care with iconic mythological creatures. It does not work for me in this case.

So Much Art From the 2025 Monster Manual

They are a little too clean or aerodynamic or slick or something. The art is good just not my preference…

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

I don’t know…initially I thought the monk way overturned. But they will only block a few attacks a combat at low mid level. The need high scores to even be a monk (rare) and personally surviving is not the same as a party surviving. If I stay on your feet alone, you may now run right into a...

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

FWIW and maybe not much… I bought the game and happy to have done so. But I think the monk is overtuned. Blocking attacks and especially multiple attacks is pretty potent where a lot of critters only have one attack. I could be wrong and we will see! I think the game will be fun variety for...

Well so much for fiscal responsibility…I broke.

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

In my recent feverish reading (I should just buy it already) I saw Greg say the various locations were connected and I thought would be represented on a map? Watched an interview and then watched a pod…read some stuff. As the point about about multiclassimg…it is limited to f,w,c,and assassin...

Are u able to tell if humans can multiclass? It seemed like yes but that seemed weird…

Yeah I just caught that. There won’t be many of them…and a quarter staff is not a two handed sword. Time will tell! Found some more to like… My old 1e cleric used a two handed hammer we had to “make up.” I see they have that weapon listed! I also see that the weapons table encourages magic...

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

We keep calling one our dogs a hippo…I don’t know what else to say.

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

Yeah. I want to decouple preferences from modern American politics whenever possible. I like to talk about the game and its play. Of course any change has costs and frequently unintended consequences no matter the intent. Calling a being that looks different from me a different species by...

I think the static damage bonus monk improves over time will prove to be a killer as their AC also improves. Might be a bit much. Then again, that is assuming you live to 8th level or something which is not a given at all.

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

In group and out group stuff is not just about conservatives as presently and narrowly defined at this moment in human history (with regional and national differences). It’s a people thing. Which your post clearly demonstrates…

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

On the one hand people talk about how important these changes are “oh think of the children!” And then some of the same people call it a nothing burger. If this stuff annoys you be an adult. Learn to ignore it or move on. I am sticking with 5e. I don’t like a single one of these changes...

I am not the OP and I don’t know retroclone anything. However, The monk looks quite different from the AD&D or of course 5e monk. He is an unarmored quarter staff expert I guess like friar tuck or the merry men? Looked like an interesting option. Throw in some clerical spells and chanting...

I am not an OSR expert. At all. That said, if the improvements are incremental and you can choose the one that fits, not seeing a downside. Don’t buy what you don’t want need or like for whatever reason. I did not really give any clones a second glance due to presentation. The look of...

On your first point, if you have some clear quote or reference, feel free to message me and I will check it out. I have been reading about the game as much as I can since Christmas and have not seen much that is troubling. So far I have mostly seen people repeating hearsay and drawing...

I don’t know the guy…and rumors from disgruntled students don’t really factor into anything for me. I am glad that to see someone actually looked at one of his products and are talking about that whether they liked or not and why. I just got barrowmaze for 5e for christmas. It was a surprise...
