5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

That seems a bit too specific, as if there's some technique a wizard can use to create them. How about: Magical crossbreeds of normal dragons and insects, a mystaran dragonfly closely resembles a regular dragonfly about 3 to 4 feet long. Its head has subtle draconic features as well as a...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Yeah, it'll need that but I hadn't gotten around to adding it to the Working Draft. Should the "efreeti noble" in the above be changed to efreeti firelord?

5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

Same here, although I'm having second thoughts about the "and the scarlet death regains hit points equal to that amount" for a couple of reasons. Namely (1) it's not something the original monster had and (2) it makes it a bit trickier to figure out the Challenge Rating. Might be better without...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Works for me. I'd like to get the Special Traits sorted out before starting on the Actions. So far we've just got Elemental Demise, Innate Spellcasting and Magic Resistance.

Not feeling that inspired at the moment. Might whip something up later.

5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

I'd remove the Hungry Mist and Hungry Mists as the original monster just used its tendrils to drain blood. Speaking of which, the 3E Crimson Death's tendrils were normal melee attacks with reach, it didn't envelop its victim and autohit them like the above version's Life Drain but its tendrils...

    Converting Planescape monsters

Updated the Modronoid Working Draft with the following: A modronoid is an artificial horror created by a deranged arcane spellcaster grafting parts from a base modron to a humanoid. This procedure is enough to drive both the “donor” modron and “host” humanoid completely insane, driven to kill...

Fiery Falchion has a nice ring to it.

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

We need to finish the magenta bits first, that is the Descriptions and Bonus Actions. I'm fine with Dashing Flight as with a 50 ft. move as it's basically just Dash that only works with its fly speed. I'm thinking we can do a moderately elaborate Description in the first (Black) dragonfly and...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

The damage quantity works for me, but I wonder if we should tweak the name or call it something else since Scimitar has a base d6 damage specified for it in 5E. Off the top of my head, how about Scorching Great Scimitar or Scorching Executioner's Scimitar for the former, or Scorching Tulwar or...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Yeah, there are some great beasties in BECMI. Here we go: Updating Black Mystaran Dragonfly. Updating Blue Mystaran Dragonfly. Updating Gold Mystaran Dragonfly. Updating Green Mystaran Dragonfly. Updating Red Mystaran Dragonfly. Updating White Mystaran Dragonfly. And to top it off… Updating...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

Agreed. In BECMI that'd match +2 plate with a +1 DEX bonus if there aren't any other factors that improved the Armour Class like an equivalent to the natural armour bonus. So if we gave it +2 full plate and DEX 12 or 13 it'd be AC 20 once the size penalty is applied. We might want to give it...

    Kraken Variants

I'm currently favouring the Medium katana for 1d10 base damage as that's what the original monster preferred. It wouldn't be hard for a supermonster in D&D Fantasy Japan to find enough human-scale katanas for all its limbs. It's important to nail down what weapons its tentacles can wield and...

5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

Updating the Scarlet Death Working Draft. Okay, let's do Special Traits next. Your Rough Draft has a lot of traits from the Vampire Mist that the 3E version of the Crimson Death lacks, such as Forbiddance and Sunlight Hypersensitivity. Also, Unusual Nature seems unnecessary unless all the...

    Creature Catalogue website won't load

That sounds like a lot of work. Someone (which'd likely end up being me) would need to reformat all the old Creature Catalog's pages as Wiki pages and set them up, which'd take ages. I've already got the monsters available as HTML files over on Resources so it doesn't seem worth the time and...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Have updated the Mystaran Dragonflies collected post. It's basically done apart from the Description so I'll update the individual entries next.

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Well they're fantastical draconic-insectile monsters not overly embiggened arthropods so I'm not fussed about them being diurnal. While their 2E AD&D were had Day as their activity cycle, their BECMI incarnation made no mention of when they are active, plus their first published appearance in...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

A Huge greatsword would normally do 21 (6d6) slashing as base damage. Add STR +7 plus 9 (2d8) fire will make the average damage 37 per attack, which'll definitely put the DPR way over the 120 or so the desired Challenge Rating is aiming for once we factor in the other damage-dealing actions we...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Well, the Saves, Skills and Senses. My current proposal is Proficiency in DEX, CON saves and Perception skill plus blindsight 10 ft., darkvision 60 ft. senses. If that's OK, it only leaves the Description and I can transfer over the numbers to the individual entries.
