3PP Release New 3PP Release: Manual of Adventurous Resources: Battlemages!

Whoof. That's not good. Thank you for letting me know; I'll get the missing text for you and post it here. However, this is actually a good set-up for another piece of news I had: MoAR Battlemages will be getting a complete layout and graphic design overhaul. If you look at the last couple of...

Gate Pass Gazette Here's Gate Pass Gazette #13!

More the latter than the former. The way I went with the Fanatic was that while they don't have the focus to cast spells while raging, they still have access to that power and can use it differently. You can only use Supernatural Wrath while you're raging and you can only cast spells while...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

Yeah, I try to get around the weirdness a little with feats that boost things like Extra Attack based on some combination of the class levels involved, but there's only so much you can do.

Blog (A5E) Level Up Plans For 2023!

Given that Morrus said he wants it written by someone from there, I have a feeling it'll be a bit different from the westernized takes we got in the 80s and 90s.

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

A bit more context: while Andrew Engelbrite did have access to my O5E multiclass feats when he was working on the synergy feat concept, he went in a little bit of a different direction than I do; his feats actually lend themselves to a more generic approach than mine do. I use feats to plug...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

I understood your point earlier just fine, I just don't agree with the approach. I prefer specific to generic. Also, as I said above, I have no objection to someone else taking that approach (and even if I did object, that would be no impediment to them taking it) but that is not what I am...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

That sounds like a great project for another designer to pick up, but my intention is to do it "longhand" and cover all of the individual combinations. Which, yes, I realize is a lot of synergy feat trees; with the 13 AG classes, plus the artificer and savant and the three third-party classes so...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

The financial angle is just one of many in play here. There's also a time element, for one thing. And while you can indeed raise money from crowdfunding platforms, nobody has yet figured out a way to raise hours. ;) There's other stuff to consider, too; for example, we've been discussing a...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

Just to clarify: the Tome of Character Options wouldn't have the full set of multiclass synergy feats; it'll probably be one of several products that, together, have all of that material. Multiclass synergy feat chainss are word-heavy, which means space-heavy, and they seem to be pretty...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

I would love to have a hardcover version of the whole MoAR line to offer (heck, I'd love to have a copy for my own bookshelf!). However, that will require a bunch of conversations and new work with the various folks involved. I think it's safe to say that such a product will exist at some point...

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

Eventually, yes, though I'm not sure what form it'll take. January's OGL nightmare kind of imposed some time to stop and evaluate on me. The Thematic Toolkit line does okay, but not as well as MoAR for completely valid reasons. So I am contemplating other means to deliver on my goal of getting a...

Nope. We're working on volume 5 now, that will be the next thing.

Level Up (A5E) Finding the Elusive Swordmage

I'm a little late to this discussion, but as the author of the aforementioned Manual of Adventurous Resources: Battlemages, I figured I'd weigh in. That product has a lot of useful tools for mixing magic and martial skill, including tertiary caster archetypes for the adept, berserker, fighter...

Level Up (A5E) Best Beginner Build

If the player has ever played a vancian spellcaster in anything ever (including video games!) cleric, sorcerer, and wizard are all fine choices, too. A ranger would also be a perfectly valid choice; particularly something like the Warden subclass.

The other nice thing about them is that while they can be an underhanded ne'er do well, they don't have to be. You can play a hard-as-nails royal spymaster and get your Francis Walsingham on, go for a very smart and perceptive sort and emulate Sherlock Holmes, channel basically any Assassin's...

Just don't give them a herald. That's a good second PC, haha.

Level Up (A5E) Best Beginner Build

If the newbie really wants to play a spellcaster, a cleric, wizard, or sorcerer shouldn't be too bad, either. I'd stay away from bards (the battle hymn/bardic inspiration thing adds some extra resource management on top of spells) and druids (getting tossed into wildshape as soon as you level up...

Level Up (A5E) Best Beginner Build

So I'm going to throw out a controversial opinion: I think the ideal starter class is rogue, not fighter. Everybody knows about ninjas, and the single die of sneak attack, no maneuvers, and a single skill trick is a very simple build. It'll still be lots of fun to play, though, with extra damage...

Level Up (A5E) Every Archetype in A5e AND 3PP

Yeah, fair. Also, the assembled should note that I offered this to Xiphumor, he didn't approach me. It also came with the understanding that if I wanted any specific compiled data, he'd give me a hand with that. I think that's probably the proper etiquette, FWIW. Publishers can offer, but it's...
