Level Up (A5E) Help me understand the Marshal

IMHO, a lot of the Marshal's value shows up in the social and exploration pillars; it's spread more evenly across the three than something like the fighter. They start getting followers for free at level 5. Their knacks can let their companions march further or carry more than they could...

    Homebrew A Leveled Up Bestiary

Ooh, that is a fascinating thought. Yeah, I probably could do something with that basic concept...

Level Up (A5E) [POLL] What are your top 5 cultures in Level Up?

My personal top 5: Cosmopolitan: If you've read my third-party material, you probably won't find it too shocking that I like the culture that's good at carrying concealed weapons. I rarely play actual rogues, but I like some covert skills in my PCs, and everything about Cosmopolitan does that...

Level Up (A5E) [POLL] What are your top 5 cultures in Level Up?

So there's been some fun discussion of favorite heritages, which class is most improved, etc. And I've participated in several of those discussions and enjoyed them, but for my money, I think cultures are where things get really cool in A5E character creation; the design team came up with so...

Level Up (A5E) What is your most favorite and least favorite heritage in Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition?

That answer varies depending on the parameters of the question. First-Party Content Only: Favorite: Orcs. I want to live next to an orcish neighborhood IRL. I love how much their lore has been changed from the D&D baseline and how it's been changed. Making them into passionate creatives is so...

Level Up (A5E) What would you include on a player cheat sheet?

The new massive damage rules - it's significantly easier to just die in a fight, and players should know that up front, rather than being surprised by it.

Level Up (A5E) Improvised Weapons: Ever the Smart Move?

Yeah, I've always considered improvised weapon users to be the masters of fighting when a fight isn't expected, or at least a really serious fight isn't expected. Bar brawls are usually assumed to be non-lethal affairs, but a broken bottle or pool cue can raise the stakes to life-and death. Most...

3PP Release New 3PP Release! MoAR Light & Dark

It's not; the 6th-level feature is where the real "juice" is.

Level Up (A5E) Improvised Weapons: Ever the Smart Move?

Ack, I meant in addition to your savant idea, but boy did I ever flub the way I presented it.

Level Up (A5E) Improvised Weapons: Ever the Smart Move?

Oh, I definitely agree. I'd go so far as to say it would be both easy and fitting to do such an archetype for no less than four different classes: adept, artificer, fighter, and rogue. Heck, I could see it as a minor focus for an archetype for berserker or ranger for sure, and maybe even herald.

Level Up (A5E) Improvised Weapons: Ever the Smart Move?

Improvised weapons are basically never as good as purpose-built ones IRL, either. In a fight, which would you rather have: a pipe wrench, or a flanged mace? A box cutter or a tanto? A zip gun or a Beretta M92? But the improvised weapons are still better than nothing. If your opponent has a...

3PP Release New 3PP Artificer Archetype: Field Agent

"When will you have support for the artificer?" RIGHT NOW! The Field Engineer is based on the "technician" or "engineer" characters seen in spy movies and tactical games. All the things you'd usually expect from an artificer, plus stealth, combat maneuvers, and eventually the ability to...

3PP Release New 3PP release: Thematic Toolkit: Judge, Jury, and Executioner!

I never did, no. I'm old enough (44) to have consumed those, but thanks to some parental concerns around "occult themes" at the time, I really didn't have access to much fantasy/horror anything until I was in high school, and I didn't start playing TTRPGs until I was in my early 20s. To my...

3PP Release New 3PP release: Thematic Toolkit: Judge, Jury, and Executioner!

Also: I'm with you herald/warlock. That can go one of three ways, IMHO, and all of them are really interesting. The first is that you match the flavor of both classes up in a way that's complimentary (so for example a Holy Champion herald and a Glorified warlock (kind of a celestial warrior...

3PP Release New 3PP release: Thematic Toolkit: Judge, Jury, and Executioner!

Ah, yep. I'll throw that in a revisions document. "on your turn" was originally in front of the bit about hitting with an attack ... which I fixed for clarity ... and missed a word when I did so. Whoops!
