Release Monte Cook’s Numenera setting comes to 5e with Beneath the Monolith

My first thought was that the GM thought that the level of the monster was it's armor. I've recently discovered Numenera, and with a background with HERO ( you move the target not the die roll, and you flavor the attack the way you want, but mechanics are pretty much the same) as well as with...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder 1.5 rumblings: Corefinder

And I have to say, as someone who bought a LOT of 3rd party pathfinder product, Legendary is one of the few companies I would trust to understand the system well enough to do this project.

Worlds of Design: RPGs as Microcosms of Life

Part of the reason I've generally moved to Superheroes as my primary RPG genre. So many wonderful things can happen if a hero loses - Deathtraps, being on "ice" for a few weeks while the villian has a duplicate ruining the heroes name, making being inside a way to get secret info on the...

The Ultra-Mysterious History of D&D's Iconic Monsters

I was into cheap plastic dinosaurs when I was a little kid, and I had these. I still have my rust monster and bulette.

Worlds of Design: The Four Laws of Character Death

Just avoid the whole mess and play a genre where characters don't die (or die permanently) like Superheroes.

2000 AD comics has released a Judge Dredd Case files book that is free to download. Figured there would be fans here that would find that useful.

Besides D&D, what are you playing?

I did try fate (in the form of the Dresden Files RPG). I just couldn't get into it - just didn't fit what I wanted in an RPG I think. It looks to be a fantastic system... just not for me. I think the Aspects and fate point economy just was too different from traditional approach for me. Genesys...

Besides D&D, what are you playing?

HERO and Genesys are my go to games. D&D is the only non universal system I play.

D&D General What tone do you prefer for D&D?

My most played and GMed genre is Superheroes - so that tone (people doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do and/or power/responsibility correlation - tends to be what I like in D&D.

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

Why would you recommend D&D - "after 40 years of playing it would seem silly not to"

    Pricing vs. Costing

I agree with Celebrim - I have only heard "costed" in reference to in game resouce cost, and price when referring to money, and I figured it had also migrated from the M:tG community.

Who brings food? The GM or the Players?

We tend not to do shared food. Whoever wants to eat, brings what they want to eat.

D&D 5E (2014) Crafting Items - Expert Craftsman vs Adventurers

That's just target practice though - in a real fight bob would be able to half dodge lots of incoming arrows (higher hit point total) than his son. 5E combat keeps accuracy bounded but has experience in combat dealt with by other mechanics.

Matt Colville, and Most Tolkien Critics, Are Wrong

As I recall the story - he got paid for the word, until he got so good at words, they changed him to being paid by the sentence, which led to that.
