D&D 5E Is One Year Old!

Against the Slavelords (Premium) came out this week in PDf (2.5 year lag). Both Murder in Baldur's Gate and Legacy of the Crystal Shard are available. Looks like the PDf lag is somewhere in the 2-3 year range. Both the 3.5 Item and Spell Compendiums are under 3 years still but not available...

D&D 5E (2014) Spectulation: What do you think the next adventure path that WotC will come out with?

I believe it is very likely they are going to break the September/April cycle (not sure if 3 entries is enough to establish a cycle) and push back the next storyline a bit to give Neverwinter (MMORPG) and Sword Coast Legends (CRPG) time to sync back up. Lots of players still in Out of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are solo monsters weaker in 5e?

'Errata' is by definition a more dignified word for 'screwed up'. Not sure what the point is here. There is an 'CR to XP' table on page 9 of the Monster Manual. There was an earlier version of that table that they used on the earlier drafts (the wrong XP values were consistent). The...

    Did I do something wrong?

Maybe we're playing Dawnbringer wrong but +2/+2 and +1d8 to undead doesn't sound like crazy damage (it is very good). It's probably the ability to blow smites like crazy. For most of OotA a paladin is a very strong character since they can just about unload every fight.

    Adjustments to Ranger Abilities

If they are getting rests after every fight I'd definitely make it recover on short or long. Ranger is at-will and long rest for their abilities. Fighters get a good boost from 1 encounter per rest style. Encounter pacing makes a big difference on class parity. The rest seems viable. The...

Which Games Were Most Played On FANTASY GROUNDS In 2015? (Hint: D&D!)

Because the period ended 7 days ago. There is usually a few month lag. Edit: After further googling, I didn't see the ICv2 Internal Correspondense #89 which would have covered Summer 2015. Normally that comes out in October, and last year IC #87 for Fall 2014 came out February 20. Looks like...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your preferred level of play?

1e had all the monsters divided into 10 Dungeon Level tables. From what I'm seeing a welled prepared party could take on almost all the games content at 10th (double party level). It would be a very 1e/2e experience.

    Adjustments to Ranger Abilities

I think you could switch Guerrilla Defense to refresh on a short or long rest.

Replacement Limbs in D&D - see Lingering Injuries table

If you don't have the Basic Rules handy... In light of that you might want to remove the limb and start over if you uber-fail one of the DC 20 saves. That extra -4 penalty is pretty hard to overcome. Targets without a positive Constitution bonus and/or Con save proficiency have a hard time...

Replacement Limbs in D&D - see Lingering Injuries table

Now in RAW 5th edition it is pretty rare to lose a limb. Short of some dismembering of the dead, the only thing that can do that is 1 magic item (Sword of Sharpness) or I think maybe trolls have an optional table for that. However, with the Lingering Injuries table, losing a hand, foot, arm or...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your preferred level of play?

Between the two goals of uncertainty and risk vs. feeling powerful I find the best mix at 5-9. Before that characters weigh too much toward Risk and after that many players have a tendency to build toward completely eliminating uncertainty to feel powerful. At the 10+ range the game has the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are solo monsters weaker in 5e?

The errata does not show this. The XP-related errata is a short list of creatures above CR20 that had the wrong XP assigned for their CR as an editing error. The CR works as an indicator of general attack and defense ranges. As characters get more opportunities to synergize abilities...

    Converting Energy Drain for 5e

Drain Life like a wraith (one of the original Level drainers) combined with Vampiric Touch for the Temp. HP. If it is really serious have it grant Disadvantage on saves, checks, and attacks until the target saves it off. But I think the reduced max hit points is pretty serious already.

Spells for a Necromancer wannabe without the corpses

Thinly veiled tweaks of the Animate Dead and Awaken spells. I might do a level 2 Animate Weapon spell. I was definitely thinking of Pinocchio, Star Wars droids/robots, and the old Puppets module (not a good module but the idea was interesting). I'd love to see an official rework of the...
