How do you rule on Force effects vs harmless energies?

3.5 version of resilient Sphere specifies that the occupants can "breath normally". I knew that 4e rules limited or "forgot" a lot, in order to minimize descriptive text, but I didn't know they blew that one.

How do you rule on Force effects vs harmless energies?

This thread is labeled D&D, but anyone can play. It's just a rules question that, as far as I know, has no right or wrong answer. Premise: Someone is in a Force Cage, or a Resilient Sphere, or a Telekinetic Sphere, or the Force construct of your choice. Question: Can they have a normal...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

I think the big one could have been made to work. The only change needed would be to change the one thick cross arm into several layered cross arms. It's essentially the multiple bow you've illustrated, but with the "bow" part made of several layers. Think of closely nested parentheses. )))))...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

Actually, thinking back, I did see a PBS show where they explored some of Da Vinci's designs and tried to see if they could work. His flying machine actually flew, like a hang-glider, though it required a high speed that made it hard to land, and lacked maneuverability. The other invention...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

I can see a "Pellet Bow" as a modified crossbow, and it should have the same reloading limitations and requirements. Being an archer IRL I can tell you that there's no way to do this with a long bow or short bow. Plus, if the ammunition is that much lighter it's the equivalent of "Dry firing"...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

<Chuckle> So when I ask if your concern is range or damage, your answer is "yes"? There are a number of specialty ammunition types mentioned in the Arms and Equipment guide that might add to damage. Also consider just enchanting the sling, or at least getting a master worked one. While...

    Can of spinach?

Sounds like a Potion of Bull's Strength juiced with the Rage spell. Whether your "Potion" is a liquid or a bunch of leaves is strictly a matter of "special effect". Now I think that +10 strength is a bit much, but combining those two will get you a +8, and a temporary CON boost as well. And...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

A slingshot requires something stretchy. In modern, high perf ones we use surgical tubing. No such thing though, in the D&D world. In hard fact, a standard sling (David v Goliath version) throws a heavier stone and does more damage. Now, in creating a "Long bow version", are you looking for...

Can a Barbarian/Bard inspire courage while raging?

The Barbarian's Rage description specifically forbids the character from using most skills, as well as any action that requires thought or concentration. The section on Bardic Music says that Inspire Courage requires three or more ranks in Perform to use it. Since the Barbarian can't use the...

Pathfinder 1E Need a name for a magic item

As an alternative, have the slits front and back, like a Hussar's coat: Better for riding. As for a name: Eilistraee's Gown seems like a natural, or "Robe of Ailistraee" if you want to follow the naming conventions already in the book.

    [3.5] Looking for character suggestions

Sounds like a Ranger might be your thing. Lots of skill points, can be a ranged attack specialist who avoids damage by not being in the fray, can actually use that Wand of Cure Light (you didn't seem to have any divine casters in the list), and the character will eventually get some minor...

    Potion of cramming

Gut reaction? No. Make it spell level specific and maybe, if the price is scaled to advance geometrically. And, like all magic items, you can't "stack" effects by consuming several, even if they are for different spell levels. Also, perhaps limit it to prepared casters? I mean it's not like...

D&D 3.5 - Boots of Temporal Acceleration, Metamagic Items, and buffs

On a separate note, in AD&D there were "Cursed Scrolls" whose effects went off as soon as someone read the title on the scroll. They cost more to make, of course. In theory you could prepare a single scroll with multiple spells as a "Cursed" scroll, then read the spell titles in order and...

D&D 3.5 - Boots of Temporal Acceleration, Metamagic Items, and buffs

Metamagic rods apply to spells you cast directly. Items that duplicate spell effects are created at specific levels, and can't be modified by the user, whether they have the Metamagic feat themselves or access it through an item. For example, say my Cleric has the Sudden Empower feat. He/she...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 - magic item questions

Actually, the spell doesn't need to be the "same type", just on your list. For example Cure Light Wounds is a Divine spell, except when a Bard casts it. Then it's Arcane. Yet a Bard can use a standard Divine type Cure Light Wounds wand.

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 - magic item questions

Wand of Spell Storing? Never really heard of such a thing. Wands are generally spell trigger items holding a particular spell, and allowing it to be used at the wand's caster level 50 times. (i.e. it's a charges item). Could someone create a Spell Storing item in the form of a carved piece...

    I have a question

Note, of course, that the quasi-deity would punch DR as if their hands were +4. They don't actually get that +4 to hit or damage. It's only counted when it comes to bypassing DR. So even a +1 sword would benefit them, in that it would give them the actual bonus to hit and damage.

D&D 3.5 - costs to upgrade existing magic items

    That's pretty much the rule.

The Compleat Alchemist by Stephan Sechi and Steven Cordobano for Bard Games

Sir Isaac Newton was a closet Alchemist. He was wealthy enough to "sponsor" himself though, and certainly not a fool. http://www.newtonproject.ox.ac.uk/texts/newtons-works/alchemical

What can you do in an Otiluke's Resilient Sphere?

One issue that comes up in our game is, can you talk to someone through a Wall of Force/Forcecahe/Resilient Sphere/Telekinetic Sphere? My character is a Wiz with the Dimensional Step feat, so short teleports are free. The Resilient Sphere is good tactical armor, when needed, since he can move...
