KotS -- built for 5 PCs?

No it's not; it's Medium and only takes up one square.

    Whither the lances?

Depends on the fighting. The spears of the Grecian armies were about fifteen feet long. The spears of the Macedonians were 20 feet long and this is considered to have been a factor in the success of Alexander the Great; his army hit first. The Zulu spear, though, was meant for one-on-one...

    Commander’s Strike

And WotC_Miko confirmed that it's a melee attack; as in the warlord has to be able to use a melee attack on the target to use this power. And the warlord doesn't automatically want reach; he's pretty heavily invested in melee (in that all his powers require it) and has fairly low hitpoints...

    Stealth in Combat

I'd say that it doesn't matter where you are during the whole of your move, but only where you end. Say you move three squares with no cover. On your fourth step you end up behind a wall and duck (roll for stealth). The mobs don't know if you've stopped there, if you have more movement, what...

Light vs Dark or vice versa

Being blinded doesn't make you handicapped, but it does mean you can't see, regardless of how much light there is.

Light vs Dark or vice versa

Actually, the light passes out of the zone of effect. The zone blocks all line of sight, bu not line of effect. Everyone outside is able to see a little better. But within the zone, no. Through the zone, no. It might be helpful. In short, the light has no effect whatsoever within the...

    D&D 4E Designing 4e adventures for a single character?

I think a 1 PC game could look something like Prince of Persia, only all at once. Make the environment incredibly active so that the PC spends as much time maneuvering foes into traps as he does actually hitting them. Otherwise it becomes boring fighting minions all the time.

Light vs Dark or vice versa

It makes a light... but the wizard and everyone else inside is blinded, so can't see it. And it can't light anything up because its line of sight out of the zone is blocked.

Light vs Dark or vice versa

The zone of darkness doesn't have anything to do with light. Read the text: So the wizard's light sheds light, but it hits a wall that has blocked line of sight.

Would stacking Combat Advantages work as a way to implement players' Clever Plans?

The thing is that preparation can now be implemented and rewarded tactically rather than by simply declaring bonuses. The players know they'll be facing a really tough fight with a hill giant, two lieutenants, and a horde of minions, they set up a distraction. They cause a ruckus of some kind...

Owlbears are Fey?!? Cold Iron is gone?

Since there's no longer Cold Iron, it doesn't make sense to require cold iron to hit fey creatures.

    Platemail sold here for CHEAP!!

It wasn't their alignment that kept them poor; at least not in 2nd edition.

Fighter: Still the King of melee?

Yeah, one on one isn't the way to go. 10 rangers vs 10 fighters. Now that's combat!

    Gnomes

It's bigger than that. They get to make the roll as part of initiative. So they escape notice, attack with CA, move away stealthily to hide again, and spend an action point to again attack with CA. Or they can use it to run away and never be seen again. Or they can use it in other creative...

    Gnomes

In combat, most people make a stealth check so that foes lose track of them. The foe knows he's out there, but not where. Stealth is always made as part of an action, usually movement. The gnome has the option to use stealth as a reaction so that the enemy isn't aware of them at the start of...

    D&D 3.x drothgery's thoughts on 4e and WotC 3.5 classes that aren't in PH1

I'd like to see barbarians as being defenders that need high Con, Int, and Cha. The charisma would fit the force of will bit that involves rages, shouts, and the like. Intelligence: where the fighter and paladin are taught their skills (particularly the paladin), the barbarian figures it out...

    Why Knock Someone Prone Anymore?

Acceleration is 9.8 m/s^2. So assuming an initial downward velocity of v=0 and setting the initial height as the zero reference. a=9.8 v=9.8t y=(1/2)9.8*t^2 So after six seconds you have .5*9.8*36=176.4 meters is approximately 579 feet, or ~116 squares. That's 58d10, or an average of...

Nonproficient in Cloth Armor = Naked?

I think if you're really ugly, you should get to add your Cha penalty as a positive bonus, too. "Thog not want sword touch ugly naked dwarf! Sword not deserve!"
