I was unconsious 20 minutes ago, but I'm ok now..

Regarding the title, I just have to say that every day I lapse into unconsciousness, suffer vivid hallucinations, and am perfectly fine within a few minutes of waking. Yeah, I'm a smartass.

Perhaps a down and dirty hotel fight like that might be better modeled using the skill system?

    D&D 4E 10 Things I Like in 4e

Tactics tactics tactics! I love that they're consciously defining roles in combat and building abilities around that. I also really like movement-heavy combat. Stock still fistfights are boring.

I stab you once and then laugh as necrotizing fasciitis takes hold and your body wastes away to nothing in a matter of hours! Mwa haa ha ha ha ha! This message brought to you by the Board for Randomized Surgery.

    Rodney Thompson: Non-Combat Encounters

Do you really not see the difference between those examples? Being well-versed in history can plausibly allow you to remember a mostly forgotten and unused system of tunnels under a city. Being well-versed in history won't let you remember that Tom the Adventuresome Baker left a crossbow in a...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

Me: Yeah, I've never played 3rd edition; what's it like? DM: Well, 3rd edition is D&D for dummies. 3.5 is D&D for Dummies for Dummies. Me: Vin Diesel plays 3.5. DM: ?

Would YOU allow multiple picks of a 'Vancian' power?

Or the DM can do his darndest to make sure that monsters learn, and the encounter powers and daily powers really only can be used the one time.

    Summoning spells... rituals?

Maybe that's what the sorcerer will be. Still, I can see very powerful summonings being rituals. Imagine adventurers tootling about town, a girl disappears, then a strange light appears in the highest tower of "zer castle" and a distraught priest runs up and tells them they have an hour to get...

    Hit points and Healing surges

Whoops. I answered surges, 1of3 answered HP. To sum up: Surges = class base + con bonus HP = Class base + con score

    Hit points and Healing surges

I'm pretty sure that it's a base number plus your constitution bonus. I can't recall if the base number is based on class or not.

That you're still not over your ex. Would ripping off a zombie's arm for use as club require an attack against fort? Constitution informs fortitude. More generally, you need a host of ability scores because those scores scale with level, which means their defenses will scale with level...

Well, the dwarf will have a higher constitution, so he'll be able to run longer. Tortoise and hare situation.

    Warlocks not warlockey anymore

The ranger stands at the back of the crowd and deals damage at will. His attack bonuses are high enough that he'll get through AC most every time. The rogue darts in and out of combat, attacking everything but armor, finding the opponents' weak points and taking them down. The fighter makes...

    Dungeoncraft - 4th edition style

Language nitpick: "Capitulate" is an intransitive verb. I capitulate. I capitulate to you. I can't capitulate you, just like I can't sit a chair, complain my boss, or die my sick dog. Other than that, your ideas look good.

I dunno. Doesn't constitution represent the ability to withstand damage? They're dead and slightly decayed, but they're still holding together. In fact, a well-preserved corpse can be darn tough. Like jerky (only not tasty).

    Non-Newtonian movement...

Heavy armor will weight roughly fifty pounds. It's definitely possible to run with that, particularly as it will be well distributed to provide even protection. But sprinting while wearing clothing as light as possible will leave you winded and physically incapable of much more than walking...

    Warlocks not warlockey anymore

I don't think you'll have to worry about sameness. The rogue and rangers are both striker classes, right? But they play (so far as I can tell) completely differently because one is ranged and the other is supposed to move in and out of melee. The organization and use of powers may be the...

    Warlocks not warlockey anymore

I've noticed one neat thing, the warlock pushes people around like mad. Isn't he the one with a power that, on a hit, slides someone three spaces and keeps sliding them every turn until they save? And I think a lot of his powers are like that. The wizard raises fog and throws magic missiles...

D&D 4E What will be your first 4E character?

I got the impression from the last podcast (21, I think) that they were trying to redesign the multiclass system. What I took from it was a return to 2e style multiclassing, with 3e style being covered by being able to replace your feats with feats from other classes.
