D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

Warlocks are allowed and acceptable. In fact, the very nature of an otherworldly Patron gives all sorts of story ideas. The Warlock-In-Question may not even realize they have a Patron, or the Patron may have a grudge against The Magi, or even might be a Magi. Who knows?

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

Rogue and Warlock are both allowed ..? I'm confused. Multiclassing is allowed and all that.

From your starting position, I would say yes.

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

Making a few executive decisions here now that I'm seeing this pan out here. 1.) We're going Point Buy. I've thought on it, and with the disparity between rolls as well as just pure simplicity, I'd much prefer Point Buy instead of roll. Going with 27 Points as stated in my first post. 2.) I am...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A 5e Renaissance Story [OOC]

Vlad is correct: if we go from like Left to Right in a simple diagram: Robed Figures --- Federigo, Lucien, & Rossa ---- Arcata, Nicolo, The Magdalena --- Iacopo and Thugs Iacopo and his men are trying to head towards the right to get the hell out of Dodge. Nicolo has moved past you two and...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A 5e Renaissance Story [OOC]

Rossa was moving to engage but is not engaged yet. The 10ft. Radius of the spell would not hit a party member so long as nobody moves to engage Iacopo and his men.

WHY!? Why does this keep happening!?

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

Well put, Fenris! As stated before, I'm not looking for perfect characters or even optimized characters. I'm looking for people, with all their strengths and flaws laid bare. I'll take a Sorcerer with an extremely in-depth and well-structured backstory over one with a 20 Cha every day, and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A 5e Renaissance Story [OOC]

The assumption would be correct, though it is still only a box. However, yes, I'd judge that it is being "worn or carried" per the RAW of the spell for the purposes of avoiding the spell just ripping the box apart. Thank you for noting! If anyone else is pulling their blows for Nonlethal...

Yes, you roll the damage die/dice again. The damage modifier does not get added again.

I do not believe you get the extra Unarmed Strike in there, as the Martial Arts feature notes that this takes a Bonus Action, which Nicolo used in his first attacks. You only gain the 1 Action, which yes, is a crit if you want to roll that extra damage in there.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A Renaissance Story

For the Readied Action, it will consume your Reaction for the round, but yes - You specifically stated the trigger and the trigger was met, if you'd like to take advantage of that.

    D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Creamsteak's Storm King's Thunder: Waterdeep

" But it makes no sense, they play in the water!" " Right! But what if they didn't!?" " Then, as I've been trying to bloody well explain, it is. not. Hippogryph. Water. Polo! It's ... It's some other sport! It's different!" " But they can still keep the pool and keep the ball in play if it...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A Renaissance Story

It appeared that The Magdalena's threat was not enough to deter the robed figures, the same androgynous voice answering her again. " The Church does not control our interests: the pursuit of science and the arcane is solely the purview of The Maker, not mortal constructs or institutions. I ask...

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

It would be quite prudent to tuck said holy symbol under your collar, or at least have it hidden in some other way. The Magi worship one religion, Magic, and would rather The City worship them. The people haven't heard the voice of the Gods, if there are even any left that care after The Great...

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

I like where you're going with this, the idea of an intellectual who turned to the sword in the aftermath of great tragedy, especially the concept of someone people looked up to but now laud as a drunk and a failure (seeing as you're going with Disgraced Academic), that's pretty interesting for...

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

So if we're going with the traditional ideal of the AntiHero (that is, the protagonist lacking idealism/courage/morality/etc.), I'd wager the majority of our PCs may turn out this way regardless. Being openly Heroic is going to attract attention and, shortly thereafter, arrows and fireballs...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Light of Civilization - A 5e Renaissance Story [OOC]

I would say that is more an Attack after already having an opponent grappled. Shoving someone after a grapple to hurt them would be more like fall damage than anything else. Perhaps on a high success on a Shove we could do a little bit of bludgeoning damage, but mostly doing physical damage like...

D&D 5E (2014) Hold Back The Night [OOC]

I'll say right now: Don't worry about optimal. Go with what feels right, go with what you want to play and explore, I don't need nor do I want Min-Maxed, Super Optimized characters who can crush combat encounters because, well, combat is not the goal of this game. Combat is going to be something...
