Alternative: Girls (females) in D&D/ Roleplaying

Mid 20th century? The "K" in J.K. Rowling is short for "I made up these initials so my potential readers won't realize I'm a woman".

Alternative: Girls (females) in D&D/ Roleplaying

Redgar, IIRC was intentionally of indistinct race--a compromise between the designers--who were pushing very hard for a set of racially-and-gender-diverse iconics, and the marketing team who wanted a big strong white dude to put on the cover. See that's the thing. There's such a thing as...

Alternative: Girls (females) in D&D/ Roleplaying

That's actually a great example. See, Twilight is clearly a thing for girls. Guys do not read the twilight books, or watch the twilight movies. The men in twilight are clearly objects of sexual fantasy for the audience, and no straight men have any desire to be subject to that (heck, I'm a...

Alternative: Girls (females) in D&D/ Roleplaying

Baloney. Men on the covers of romance novels are prettier, cleaner, and generally slimmer that you're likely to see in a D&D book. Male D&D characters usually project power. Romance novel characters trade much of that power for grace. The only place you're likely to see that much grace in a...

    Are gamers chronic loners

It's worth noting that the posters on ENWorld are in no way a representative sample of all gamers. They tend to be older, for starters--that alone will skew the numbers towards "married" (and "divorced") quite a bit.

    Are gamers chronic loners

That decimal is mildly disturbing. I'm not sure I even want to contemplate what "Wife 2.1" might indicate. My gaming group is on its way to becoming "single dudes only" unfortunately. A player is likely going to break up with his girlfriend (whose brother is also in the gaming group). :(

Uh, no thanks, I'll play this instead.

I've actually seen that card turn into an unexpected game win. The character was 1 round away from being devoured when he actually beat cthulhu, sealing a gate he didn't have the clue tokens to seal on his own.

    Modern (ish) miniatures

Well, 1920s, technically. But most of them look pretty suitable for a modern day game. Fantasy Flight games is releasing painted minis corresponding to the characters in the Arkham Horror game--48 in all. At $4 a pop, they're a little pricey, and it looks as though they might be only...

    Suggestions for riddles/prophecies

Seems like a two part task. You're trying to create riddles and prophecy that works in the context of your game. And you're also trying to write poetry. As far as writing poetry goes, there are all sorts of resources online and off--try googling "writing poetry" for starters. I'd suggest...

A Discussion in Game Design: The 15 minute work day.

But shouldn't D&D support a variety of playstyles? Adventure pacing is a major tool in the DM's arsenal, and when a ruleset dictates itself to a certain sort of pacing, you're hindering the DM's ability to make the game more fun. Really, I think the best solution is to ditch the correlation...

Where to put the land of Faeries in my altered Great Wheel?

Definitely somewhere in the Inner planes -- Heaven and Hell are distant places, but faerie should be right next door.

    Referee (DM/GM/Whatever) Training

The two main elements that led to me being a good GM: 1) Me being a mediocre GM for a patient group of players long enough that I got good at it. 2) an improvisational theater class But ultimately, step 1 was a lot more important than step 2.

    The New "Face" of Gaming...

If it was comic jackassery, It might actually be watchable. But at least in the episodes I watched, the comedy mostly fell flat. The problem is that Tosh treats the videos he mocks as though they were real-life events, when they're obviously performances--he's essentially mocking actors for...

    Modern Enemies

IIRC, the MSRD only contains the monster statistics, which is only a small part of what makes the book cool. It's chalk full of organizations and NPCs suitable for a modern campaign. I'd recommend the Menace Manual, if you can find it at a decent price, for any modern game regardless of system.

    Gamers, I need input!

Sounds like a wonderful idea. A similar store (albeit focusing on coffee & pastries) opened near my house last year, and It's doing well. I offer the following advice: En World is the absolute worst place to ask for input. ENWorld skews older, wealthier, and (obviously) towards the RPG...

    Adventures with an alchemy theme

Do your players want to play the sort of alchemists who solve problems with their keen intellect and understanding of elemental theory? or the sort of alchemist who solves problems with explosions? Because those dictate very different sorts of campaigns. For the thinky side of things, I'd...

There are few shows as miserable as Tosh 2.0 Some internet videos are funny, and some are not. But none of them are improved by the commentary of a jackass.
