    1. Who is "they" (strawman argument) 2. You claim someone said something similar to what I said about something not very similar to what I was speaking about. I don't see the relevancy.

Anyone remember this 90s-era Magic: the Gathering calendar?

I'm not aware of any alternate arts for Stasis, and wasn't able to find any on Starcity Games, either (which is pretty good about listing every freaking version of a card available). If it was an alternate Stasis artwork in the calendar, I'm pretty sure it was never used on a card. Another...

Anyone remember this 90s-era Magic: the Gathering calendar?

Stasis doesn't look like a clockwork anything. Maybe you're thinking of time elemental?

Taking computer RPG material into your table-top RPG

Absolutely. I find World of Warcraft, in particular, a very rich mine for ideas.

    OGL/d20 Boardgame?

I'd say that the recent D&D boardgames have about as much to do with 4e and they do with 3e. Which is to say, not very much. Borrows themes and window dressing, and that's about it.

Ways Tabletop RPGs can Differntiate from MMOs

Everyone knows the usual grounds for what tabletop RPGs can do better than MMOs: the fact that there's a human arbiter there means you have the flexibility to do literally anything. But it occurred to me recently that there ARE other ways tabletop RPGs can differentiate and elevate themselves...

    AEON Quickstart Playtest Open

Hmm... An RPG named Aeon? Hope you don't get sued by MTV. ;)

    Let's be racist!

What do a female half-orc and the party's cleric have in common? You don't really appreciate either 'til they go down on ya.

Tell me about L5R the RPG

I've only browsed briefly the quick start rules they gave out at free rpg day a couple years ago, but the most recent system uses a dice pool system where you roll however many dice, but only keep your X best. It looked kind of interesting; on my 'pick up at some point' list.

My DM just told me he fudges rolls....

I'm willing to fudge most things, but not dice. Dice are sacrosanct. Every time I roll a die, the spectrum of outcomes is set before the roll. Whether it's a roll to look up a table, a roll for damage, or a roll to hit, any applicable modifiers are all set beforehand. The roll itself is made in...

Legends and Lore 11/15/2011 - Out of Bounds

Haven't read the article, so I apologize if this is off-topic, but here's my naive answer to the emboldened question: At the end of the last session, the PCs discovered the rowboat they were in was sabotaged to be leaving a trail of blood. Right after they noticed that, it exploded. They're...

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

Lots of blissful ignorance. :) This would be covered either by bludgeoning (the impact of the fall) or slashing (being dragged across a rough surface). If it's something happening immediately via a magical effect, that would fall under entropy. If it's something happening over time, then...

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

You make a great argument. If nothing else, I like the idea that I could have e.g. golems which are highly resistant to fire but not acid. My initial thought is that bludgeoning would cover everything from clubs to sonic attacks to constriction. The only reason I could see for breaking it...

    Shadow as a "power source"?

It's also worth noting that cold is just a lack of heat, but most people don't have a problem with cold being a 'thing' in RPGs.

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

I worry that necrotic might be too much of a loaded term; I don't want it to be pigeon-holed as "death magic," even if most of the examples I can think of off the top of my head could certainly be thus described.

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

I'm trying to think of all the different ways that damage can be categorized. Note that I'm specifically talking about physical trauma; the sort of things we'd think of as causing 'hit point damage' in D&D. So things like disease are probably not appropriate, but a fast-acting poison might be...

    PDF Printing Website

I've heard of people having problems, but I personally have never had them refuse to print anything. I've also never tried to print anything that was obviously of dubious origin (e.g. a scan of a book). But as far as PDFs I've purchased, they've happily printed them without objection. I've...

Should D&D Abandon Pairing of Elements & Damage Types?

Neat idea! Question: Are these 'the way things actually are,' or is it more accurate to say that this is the model that has been constructed by [im]mortal minds, and the reality of things may not be quite so... differentiated? Some ideas: Circle of Reality Circle of Sentience Circle of Being...
