D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Modern D&D, particularly WotC's brand, is no longer my concern.

Do you think most folks are more ok with the playbooks and moves that constitute the visible actions that the rules allow in, say, PBtA games, but are baffled by the idea that the world they're playing in operates more or less like the real world in practice unless you make the point that, in...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

A few things: 1. They didn't IMO "fix" all those things in 5.5, they changed them. How one feels about it remains subjective. 2. It is WotC that has no desire to publish a different version of D&D, not "anyone". There are plenty of different versions of D&D being published right now, and I...

What show is this character from?

You're not wrong, but it works both ways. Most players would I think be equally baffled by the principles inherent in many narrative games. How many actual gamers really care about player-authored rising conflict across a moral line, and how many are just doing their best to play the game the GM...

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

The problem is that it's a really tempting trap to a lot of people IMO, because there is significant appeal to the fantasy of just "having the magic in you". It really plays up the specialness of your PC, which is a real draw from the RP side. My issue with sorcerers is that it is a way to play...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

This is what I mean, yes. Divergent mechanics. Pain points in the rules for those who aren't directly using the 5.5 core. Is what WotC going to produce worth it to those who are using a base 5e game that isn't 5.5?

There are, I suspect, considerably more sim-oriented GMs than there are sim-oriented players. At least, the DM side cares about it more on average I think. This to me means it makes more practical sense for a sim GM to take a known game like D&D and its relatives and tweak it as much as their...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Given the somewhat messy nature of 5.5's changes from 5.0 (IMO), what I'm actually curious about is how useful books in the 5.5 line subsequent to the new core books for those who did not buy those core books but are instead relying on some other version of 5e as their base. We won't know that...

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

Not a problem for me. Got a solve.

And yet the degree of hostility you're presenting right now isn't IMO being thrown back at your preferences.

So you're picking nits by purposefully using a ridiculous, extreme example? Not the best take unless you're just trying to score points, IMO.

Yes please, particularly the newer ones. I didn't buy into that Kickstarter.

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

Never said it was. My eras cover the ancient world to science fiction. I think I covered the mid 18th century in either the end of Renaissance or early in the next era (industrial in my system). Like I said, it's abstracted but granular enough for my purposes. Sorry if that's not good enough for...

Well I'm sorry, but my crew doesn't want to learn Rolemaster. Still a sim fan, somehow.

Awesome! Looking forward to it. I missed the Kickstarter, so obviously I'll have to pick up what I want separately. That's the sort of thing I was talking about anyway.

Please stop trying to trick people into liking narrative games. Is that kind of recruiting really necessary? Why can't you just accept people's personal feelings as they're stated?

Subsystems, hexcrawl-related stuff, downtime activities. More monsters are always cool. Maybe some setting stuff, if it is mechanized as needed (you know I'm a sim guy). The recent Warhammer-inspired supplement by @Fenris-77 was right up my alley.

Aren't there a ton of adventures, many of them low-priced or free, out already? Seems like we have plenty to choose from and likely not nearly time enough to even read them all, let alone play them. And with so many already extant examples, adjusting them or even making your own is IMO not too...

We Should Be More Critical of Our Criticisms

Yeah, horny dumbasses and emotional overreaction are the principle drivers of drama there, especially in BtVS. The stakes just go crazy because of the fantasy elements.
