Fair enough, but that seems unlikely if my theorized requirement isn't met.

That is literally what I said. This won't stop until Narrativist gameplay is explained by Trad-leaning players to the Narrativist's satisfaction.

Or any other D&D I'd care to play, frankly.

I have a theory. In their view we are misunderstanding the process / goals / philosophy in some way. We have to explain that we understand Narrativist games to their satisfaction and still don't care for them for them to be satisfied.

Then we are back at preference and feels. Can we all just accept that and move on?

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

If people are encouraged to make their own content, they might be less likely to buy the next supplement WotC publishes. I can see them choosing to de-emphasize DIY.

It would fit with their business plan and profit-making goals, which seem to be their first priority when designing and releasing product.

On the other hand, if they don't it's hard not to see that as a lack of faith in their own bespoke system.

I do expect it, which is why I engage in a regular struggle between the PC success push by the players and the desire for grounded play and using the rules as intended and not just in ways that benefit the PC in question. That's part of the process too, but sometimes you just get tired of...

Thinking it up before makes a big difference to some people. I don't think it can be easily brushed aside.

Perhaps he was irritated by yet another player negotiation for personal advantage on a skill check. This is why there is concern about players naturally desiring to eek out any way to improve the mechanical position of their PCs.

I don't know...this still seems more or less true. Details aside, the guard shows up either way in trad games, but not (more or less) in narrativist games, at least it quite a bit fuzzier.

I have zero reason to do so. Nothing they did to it makes it worth another $50.

I haven't read the manifesto and am not posting in response to it. The fact that D&D doesn't minimize these situations as well as I'd like is why I tweak the rules to better suit me (like with Level Up, although I tweak its rules too). Ultimately, that fact is why it's not my favorite game. It...

At some point prior to the PC encountering the situation or making a roll, if the logic of the setting indicates such a person should be there.
