What is the most statistically improbably die roll you've witnssed?

I've seen a few of these. A guy in a 3e game rolled three nat 20s in a row, which was an auto-kill under the rules we were using. The week after, he did it again. My second AD&D character was a paladin with 18/00 Strength. Only time I've ever seen it. I did see my sister roll up an assassin...

    AD&D 2E AD&D 2e - Player's Options ?

Apart from modifying by Dex, that's how it works BTB. So BTB is actually even quicker than that, because you don't apply Dex ;)

POLL: Greatest "Golden Era" Module for D&D.

Agreed - the lower levels of the final dungeon area in particular are quite straightforward. I found that the sheer scope of what was happening made up for that, but it's definitely something to consider reworking. Although, my PCs just burrowed their way into the side of the dungeon instead of...

POLL: Greatest "Golden Era" Module for D&D.

D3 Vault of the Drow: An amazing underground sandbox with so much depth and colour packed into so few pages. As the culmination of all that came before it really delivered, and as the template for so much that came after, its place in history is assured. I2 Tomb of the Lizard King: An ancient...

    AD&D 2E AD&D 2e - Player's Options ?

I replaced the standard 2e system with one that was much quicker, though less gritter. My players made me put the standard one back haha. They really like rolling each round and then adding the initiative modifier to see when their action comes. Go figure :D

    AD&D 2E AD&D 2e - Player's Options ?

I'm running two 2e games at the moment. It's a super-fast system at its core. With a few house-rules, I don't think I'd ever need to play any other edition again. Well, except maybe B/X.

AD&D 1E Which NEW class from a Dragon Magazine did you play or allow ?

We had a samurai and an anti-paladin in our 1e games. We're using the variant monk in our 2e game now. I seem to recall using one of the bard variants too.

    AD&D 2E AD&D 2e - Player's Options ?

Yeah, like others, we use parts of these. I've used spell points as a player and really liked them, and we used character points to tweak existing classes (although building them from scratch was deemed to broken to bother with). I use parts of High Level Campaigns, some of the weapon...

D&D General Which edition of D&D are you currently interested in?

Currently running a game that is 2e it its core, but with houserules that draw on a number of other editions (primarily 1e and BX but if I see an idea I like in one of the WotC editions, I steal it). Played 3e/PF and a bit of 4e - liked them for the most part. 5e doesn't offer me anything that...

D&D 5E (2014) Assuming Dark Sun is on the horizon, what are your worries?

I worry that we won't get loads and loads of amazing new art by Brom. I feel this concern to be well-founded. Oh well.

The D&D Edition Complexity Thread- How do you order Edition Complexity?

For me it's B/X - 2e - 5e - 1e - 4e/3e I'm not ranking OD&D because it requires so many assumptions and understanding to play the game out of the box that I don't feel it can be meaningfully compared to the other editions - unless you use all the supplements, in which case it's more or less the...

D&D General Old Campaign Worlds - What Have You Used And Why?

I use them all the time. I stole bits of the Realms for my homebrew (Myth Drannor, Undermountain), sent my characters to Greyhawk for a brief spell, sent them to Ravenloft often, use Spelljammer and Planescape as adjuncts to our regular game. Why? I think it's because they're all part of the D&D...

Character Idea: Necromancer who wants to convince slaving cultures undead are more effecient

The 1e adventure "Egg of the Phoenix" uses this idea. There are "perfect slaves" called slinks in use that turn out to be zombies disguised with illusion magic so they aren't all gross and stinky. They're controlled by amulets that make them obey someone wearing a matching amulet. Naturally...

    Life shaped items?

There's a bunch of this kind of stuff in Chaositech from Malhavoc. And there were grafts and symbionts, which had a similar function in the 3e Fiend Folio, and various bits and pieces in other books. See also this thread, which summarises a bunch of this material...

    AD&D survey questions

    1) Do you use the racial level limits from the PHB or UA, if you use them at all? If you do use them, is it more for flavor or as a balancing factor? No. I boost humans and remove all racial class and level limits. 2) Is the Barbarian from UA used in your games? If so, do you follow the class...

What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

Started with D&D Moldvay box and followed the game through to 3e and Pathfinder, before returning to a hacked BX/1e/2e hybrid, which is my go-to D&D. I've taken breaks over the years, though, primarily to run Mage: the Ascension and Vampire: the Dark Ages chronicles, and also Torg (two campaigns...
