    X-Files season 10

Yup. It doesn't touch on the mythology at all, really, and is more of a "monster of the week" story. It is quite a touching look at where Mulder and Scully are in their lives following the end of the series and - as mentioned above - sets up their situation in the new series nicely. Plus the...

    X-Files season 10

Yeah, I loved it. It was a classic Darin Morgan episode - great stuff. In a similar vein, a local channel showed "Bad Blood" later on in the evening, so we got two comic X-Files episodes in one evening. Loved the homage to Kim Manners! Sam and Dean would be proud.

Dragon mag, Dark Sun huge map in pdf!

I have a DS map from the 4e era (which I'm presuming this is) with distances that sounds like the one described above - it's 4.29mb and scales to about 1125x788 as a jpg. I also have a huge one without distances that's a 20mb png file that scales to 4500x3150. PM me and I'll hook you up.

Writing games - advice on motivation

When I need inspiration, I re-read this, from "The First Five Pages", a neat little book on writing: It doesn't always work. But it always lifts my heart.

    GaleForce 9 Mats

I have their Dark Sun maps (the ones of the Tablelands and Tyr, as opposed to the gridded desert). They're vinyl and roll up fine. Mine came in plastic tubes. So they're not like the Paizo flipmats, which fold up. They're more like a Chessex battlemap or those giant Ptolus maps.

    Lord Soth's Charge

Great pic - great book :). I went on an art-book splurge recently and bought up all the D&D/AD&D art books I could find. This was one of them. So many fantastic pictures. Would be nice to see something like that for modern D&D (Paizo's cool Dragon art book is one, of course) but I'll never get...

Edition warring is for chumps, but isn't D&D specific

That's fine, though. We're getting the 20th anniversary edition of Mage: the Ascension soon. That should reignite enough flamewars to solve the planet's renewable energy crisis for the foreseeable future. All we need to do first is figure out how tap the energy generated by discussing whether...

Edition warring is for chumps, but isn't D&D specific

What would you recommend for a decent D&D flamewar then? I note you said nothing about the cheese, so we can assume that all decent flamewars must contain a certain amount of cheese, correct? :D

Edition warring is for chumps, but isn't D&D specific

Mage: the Ascension. If you haven't been part of a Mage flamewar, you haven't lived. D&D edition wars are pleasant outings on the river bank with ginger beer and cheese & cucumber sandwiches by comparison :).

    What happened with Vampire?

It does talk about it, but it's nothing more than a myth and certainly not a central theme of the game until much, much later.

    What happened with Vampire?

That's a really interesting perspective. Apocalypses, while rumoured, weren't the core focus of any of the cWoD games, barring the obvious Werewolf. Gehenna was a fairy-tale and Mage had no end-of-world metaplot to begin with. As players, we were a little bemused by the overt shift in the...

Is it possible that 2nd edition could make a very popular come back?

2e is too close to 1e to make a full-on revival viable, at least as far as its rules are concerned. There are plenty of areas where 2e is mechanically an improvement over 1e - it's just that you can house-rule those advancements into a 1e retro clone so easily that there isn't the same pressing...

What are your last three RPG purchases?

Doors to the Unknown (Planescape collection complete, yay!) Ruins of Zhentil Keep (finally replacing copy lost in the Great Flood of 2004) Realmspace (just because it was cheap) So yeah, bit of a 2e thing going on there :)

D&D 5E (2014) Are you going to buy the 5e Core Books?

Probably not. The combination of the ogl and the osr mean that I have tons of material to mod my game with and customise it to my liking. I've been running a houseruled PFRPG and am now running a modded AD&D1e - both scratch their respective itches really well. I'll have a look at the core...

    Initiative, smishitive!

This is what I do as well. The players roll d20 for init at the start of a session, and I use that for the first fight of the night (if there is one). At the end of every fight, players roll init for the next fight. It's not disruptive - players are usually book-keeping, catching their breath...

    Favorite D&D Campaign Setting?

Dark Sun for non-standard fantasy. Lost Lands (the Necromancer Games/Frog God Games setting) for more traditional gaming. Planescape and Spelljammer are runners-up in the former, while Greyhawk and Wilderlands take second place in the latter :).
