I agree with D4, in games where I've tried to make combat "realistic", players have been amazingly cautious and never taken any risks. Although this may be more life like, it just isn't fun to play.

Celtavian, I don't think that a 25th level wizard should rely entirely on one 6th level spell, there are plenty of others out there.

I could never figure out why the half elf was even included as a race, there are no half dwarves or half gnomes in the PHB, so why half elves?

I was thinking of working it so that the iron golem has its normal 50/+3 DR when not in an antimagic field, but always has iron's hardness of 10.

According to the DMG, DR is a supernatural abilty, so in an anti magic field it should be supressed. To me, this doesn't make any sense for creatures such as iron golems, for whom their DR seems to be independent of magic, much like hardness. For a solar, however, it would make perfect sense...

It sounds like Wulf's storyhour all over again. It can get nasty when one player's actions result in the death of another character.

Angcuru, coke only dissolves nails due to its acidity. You beloved orange juice is more acidid than coke, so it would disolve the nail even quicker.
