Story Hour - Your Favourite Story on the Boards

I know it's not technically an SH but Grummok, Gargoyle assassin NPC by blackdirge is excellent. Each NPC that he writes up is better than the last.

Request for an Epic Spell design

I always found it interesting how much easier it was to become immortal if you were evil. Why can't good guys do it as well?

Elf or Human , whos better?

I can't get the image out of my head of an armour wearing, winged cube wielding a morningstar, still it is better than an elf.

Can anyone think of any reason not to be a Rogue?

Sorry to go off topic, but Drawmack, your main argument seems to be that because a rouge may be a good craftsmen or whatever, he will be hated. This has nothing at all to do with the rogue class, by your logic anyone who is good at anything will be hated. Therefore it is not a drawback of...

Is it inherently evil to summon up a demon?

So, if I was a good aligned character and I had a 20ft x 20ft room constructed, summoned numerous demons into said room, and had the exits sealed off with force walls, this would make me evil? The demons could not escape, they could not talk to me, they could do nothing evil at all, and after...

Dungeon magazine says maybe more vile. Huzzah!

If anyone is interested, here is a thread by Blackdirge that I would highly recommend reading. It incorporates BoVD rules throughout and is, in my opinion at least, exellent. Just remember that Grummok is, and is supposed to be, evil. I thought that I'd link to this so that people can see...

What the heck about the Realms is Forgotten anyway?

Call me stupid, but what's this 'canon' that everyone's talking about? I have never heard the term before.

    The Ethics of Summoning

From reading this thread this is what i came up with. Firstly, I think that the creatures are subservient. They would obey the caster if they could, they simply can't understand what he/she is saying. The inablility to communicate does not affect the master/ slave relationship. Secondly, I...

Challenging my high-lvl group (NPCs and monsters; my players shouldn't read this!)

The following is just a random idea I had to keep the defenders on their toes. My apologies if it has already been suggested, already been done, or has some obvious flaw that I have missed. Have a relatively easy group attack the party just before they leave for the comfortable castle, or...

Tur An Tiel--Bones of the Dragon.

I love the historys of the major NPCs, they make the whole world seem real. Rhialto, please keep posting.

killed a character tonight, and i feel sort of bad...

It is difficult DMing sometimes. In my experience players love it when they just escape a very real chance of death but hate it when they die. It's hard to balance risk with safety and unfortunately sometimes players just die.

killed a character tonight, and i feel sort of bad...

In my opinion there's nothing worse than having the life of your character depend on a single die roll. That's why I hate instant death spells. Once a character that I had nurtured from 1st level was hit by phantasmal killer and failed both his saves. The combat was unexpected so there was...

Bizarre Magic, Empires, Terrible Advances In Technology, and Pushing The Limits!

In that same world I had the empire take anyone with int-18 away for special training in magic. They were taught absolute allegience to the empire and, along with everyone else, worshipped the rulers as gods.

Bizarre Magic, Empires, Terrible Advances In Technology, and Pushing The Limits!

Whoa, long post. I was just wondering, what alignments are the main empires? Something that I took into account in one of my worlds (I never got the opportunity to play it though) was the impact of high level monsters. In my opinion they would force people to stay in large, fortified...

    Xp for non adventurers

I was wondering at what rate Xp would be awarded to non-combat characters. To me it is obvious that a wizard who never goes adventuring but instead spends his time researching ancient magiks in his tower would go up levels and gain new spells (though perhaps not an increases BAB). I think that...

Favoured classes - nature or nurture?

In the real world I believe in nurture over nature. But in D&D I think that nature rules supreme. Most creatures have their alignment 'hardwired' in, and although this might not be correct normally, it is right for fantasy.

Sneak Attack: A Little Too Powerful?

How do you get the quote? This was posted by Xerier ____________________________________________________ Str 14 Dex 18 Con 14 Int 8 Wis 8 Cha 8 - Starting (28 point buy, subtract from Con for lower points).
