    Incense of Meditation

Well, in 3.5e, gnomes don't cast arcane spells; they have spell-like abilities with a fixed caster level (1st): This is different from the spellcasting abilities of the old 3e gnomes, but the old gnomes also had a fixed caster level (1st): There's no information about whether effects which...

    Jumping on a monster's back

I like an opposed Ride vs. Grapple. (The following rules are entirely my invention.) Treat it kind of like a grapple attack. Entering the hostile mount's square provokes an AoO (like grapple step 1) unless you have the Mounted Combat feat. According to the (sadly untrustworthy) Rules of the...

best form for a 5th level druid?

Cheetah. Trip with all three attacks. If you have time to buff up before combat, cast Bull's Strength for that extra trippin' goodness And the usual Greater Magic Fang, Barkskin and Cat's Grace. If your campaign allows it, Thornskin (Complete Arcane) is a good melee buff spell, too, as is...

    The Lance

    Before character level 3, you'd only have +1 BAB to toss around anyway, so this is not a huge loss. 1 Ftr1 Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge 2 Drd1 (Animal companion: heavy horse) 3 Drd2 Power Attack 4 Drd3 5 Drd4 6 Drd5 Improved Bull Rush 7 Drd6 8 Drd7 9 Drd8 Shock Trooper

    The Lance

Re: Spirited Charge Your human fighter could do that at first level: One feat for being first level, a bonus feat for being human and a bonus fighter feat for Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge. Take druid levels for the rest of your career and you've got a really fine mounted...

    The Lance

When you're using a weapon one-handed, you get 1x Str bonus and +0 Disarm. When you're using the same weapon two-handed, you get 1.5x Str bonus and +4 Disarm. Check out the Main 3.5e FAQ, page 15 of the current version:

    New Spells for Lvl1 Wiz

True Strike is usually best from a scroll or wand because it doesn't scale up with level. If your campaign will let you buy scrolls, get a few of those instead of cluttering your spellbook. Or you could pick up True Strike and scribe scolls of it for cheap.

Challenge: Making the worst 20th-level character

It's possible to multi-class and prestige-class your way to level 20 without ever gaining a single BAB. By careful spell selection, the most damaging spell you could cast is a cantrip.

Vigor spells also auto-stabilize you when your HP drop to -1 to -9. Nice!

    Charming: Do they remember?

Those Spellcraft rules are for figuring out WHICH spell is being cast. That's different from figuring out that SOME spell is being cast. The Core rules don't require any kind of skill check to recognize that someone is casting a spell. If you see someone speaking out loud, gesturing with one...

    Charming: Do they remember?

Complete Adventurer suggests using Slight of Hand opposed by Spot to cast a spell so that others won't recognize it. Slight of Hand is "Trained Only" and it's a cross-class skill for most spellcasters. If you've spent a little time studying mind-control magic (say, getting one rank in...

    Charming: Do they remember?

That Intelligence check is a good idea, but the DC seems a little too easy to me. I think the DC should be a bit higher, like DC 15 to recognize a spell that's being cast. And it should be a little harder for higher level spells, so let's add +1 per spell level. It should be a little harder to...

    Charming: Do they remember?

In real life, people help their buddies do illegal things all the time. If the guard doesn't have Spellcraft (it's Trained Only, remember), he has no chance to figure out what's going on. He might be suspicious, but he could never be sure.

    Charming: Do they remember?

I knew a girl once who had me quite charmed. Was it magic or just her? Unless you have Spellcraft, you'd never know. But you might always wonder. -- Ken Jenks

Aiming Fireballs soi they don't hit the party?

There's no chance of mis-targeting an intersection. That's how the area affected by a spread spell is determined. SRD === Spread: Some effects, notably clouds and fogs, spread out from a point of origin, which must be a grid intersection. The effect can extend around corners and into areas...

    Wall of .... Spells

For some reason, many people think a Wall of Force is infinitely thin. It's actually 1 ft. thick. Many people think a Wall of Force can be shaped or can be horizontal. It can't. This is probably a hold-over from earlier editions of D&D. Yes. Yes. Yes. The "wall" needs to be contiguous, but...
