    Help with a Cleric Build

Choose a deity with the War domain and you get Weapon Focus for free. An archer cleric is better for the party than a melee cleric. If you're engaged in melee, it's harder for you to move around and cast cleric spells for your friends. If you're a melee cleric, you spend buff spells on...

    Help with a Cleric Build

I have a 16th level FR cleric in a similar role, but I chose the cleric archer path. Lindeloff of the Bow Elf (and damned proud of it) Cleric of Solonor Thelandira (The Woodsmaster) Domains: Elf, War (Longbow) Feats: 1: Point Blank Shot (from Elf domain), Weapon Focus (from War domain), Rapid...

Grapple damage, when at what point do you apply it?

The 3.5e PH and Main 3.5e FAQ disagree on this. The PH says armor spikes inflict extra piercing damage on top of your non-lethal unarmed strike damage. The FAQ says you get either spike damage or unarmed strike damage, but it's a little ambiguous; it may be saying that you have the option of...

Grapple damage, when at what point do you apply it?

No, it doesn't. Check out the MM description of Improved Grab: And this one, too: Basically, the bear skips grapple steps 1-4, including step 3 where the bear would normally inflict nonlethal unarmed strike damage. So it just inflicts lethal claw damage once.

Giant rock throwing, one or two hands?

Complete Warrior also has a section on improvised weapons that can help determine light, one-handed or two-handed status of hurled weapons. Throwing a two-handed weapon is a full-round action, so no iterative attacks, even with Quickdraw. Keep in mind that maximum range is five range increments...

    More bite for Intimidate's bark

Intimidate/Demoralize Opponent is worse than useless in one-on-one combat because it uses up a standard action and it "wears off" before the intimidator gets to act. But if you have two or more intimidators, it can be terrific. For example, three fighters with spiked chains are threatening a...

    Q-Staff Fighter Build

Str high, Dex 14, Int 14, Con 16, Wis and Cha low. Human is best, but consider Dwarf, Wood Elf. Ranger2/Fighter the rest of the way. Choose Ranger at level 1 for more skill points. Choose Two-Weapon Fighting, Ranger style. This gives you the flexibilty to use TWF vs. low AC targets or when...

Tower Shields - Game this evening - how do they work

There's a major rewrite of the tower shield rules in the Main 3.5e FAQ. You should consider both versions (PH and FAQ) and discuss the rules with your players.

Grapple damage, when at what point do you apply it?

That's correct for a full attack. The second grapple attempt is done at -5 on your grapple check, the third at -10 on your grapple check, while the opposed check of your opponent remains at the same bonus. Specifically, damage is done during step 3 or when using the Damage Your Opponent option.

    Grappling questions in general...

Grappler build recommendation Human. Monk for two levels, switch alignment to Neutral or Chaotic, then Barbarian 1 and fighter the rest of the way. This gives you Improved Grapple and unarmed strike, rage and Greater Weapon Specialization (Armor Spikes). Put stats in Str, Con. Wear spiked...

    Hobgoblin Bard 10 mess.

Since you're into mounted combat, you might want to invest in a masterwork cold iron lance and a Wand of True Strike. If you keep your Power Attack feat, you could fire up a True Strike first (using Use Magic Device skill) and do a mounted lance charge at +20 attack (+20 True Strike, +1 Str, +1...

Monk and Feats - advice sought

I'd change Combat Expertise into Martial Weapon Proficiency: Guisarme. A guisarme is a very flexible weapon, especially for a monk. You can trip, disarm and sunder from 10 ft. away, all without getting an AoO from creatures without reach. Since you're using it two-handed, you get +4 on disarm...

    AoO's in an Improved Snatch/Grab?

You can't usually make an AoO on someone you're grappling. I don't see anything in the Improved Grab description that lets the grabber taking the -20 option make an AoO on the grabbee. Do you?

    Clarification on an AoO case

You didn't mention giving the party a Sense Motive check to get a "Hunch" that something is wrong. This kind of skill check takes a minute (ten rounds), per the PH description of Sense Motive. You should also give subtle role-playing clues, like purring and growling while talking as the...

    Spell Storing Weapon

I think you'll agree that a spell storing weapon changes the way a targeted spell is delivered. This ability to affect creatures with Target: You spells is a side-effect of that change in spell targeting. I don't think it's what the game designers intended, and a DM is certainly free to rule...

    Spell Storing Weapon

Why would a creature not be an appropriate target for a True Strike spell? A Hold Person spell can't affect an ogre; he's the wrong type. What does that have to do with spell storing weapons? I'm not following your line of logic.

    Spell Storing Weapon

Any time the weapon strikes a creature and the creature takes damage from it, the weapon can immediately cast the spell on that creature as a free action if the wielder desires.
